  • I'm with Shredd. Were are ya Kirk? Hope all is well! & your still doing what you have an obvious tallent for! 8) :D
  • He was posting for a while at the Cakewalk forum. He has not posted latley. Here was his last post.

I used my stat for this one. I love the smooth sound it generates. Most of the background done with wusikstation ($59.00 with the group buy – Nice stuff). Used the following:

    Percusion: StormDrums
    Synths: wusikstation and z3ta
    Guitars: GNX4
    Piano: Sound Font

  • I am still kicking and making music. I have been busy trying to redefine my sound. I just bought a GendelDeadRoom (Isolation Box) which seems to be working out pretty good. It comes with a 12 inch speaker and two mic jacks and goose necks to position the mic placement. Since I record with headphones this allows me to record in total silence and keep the tone from my Atomic Amp cranked about 50%.

GNX4 into Amp, External speaker out of Amp into DeadRoom and mic into sound card. The box is around $389.00 with speaker and so far is working great. No Screaming wife or neighbors. Here is a link to my first try using the Box.

Here is a link to their site and a YouTube demo.

  • Hey kb - it's great to hear you're alive n well and still doing songs. Your stuff rewls and most of what you've posted here is on my iPod. It's awesome. Have you quit your day job yet? 8)
By the way - I'm not reg'd at SoundClick, and I can't download your tunes. Any chance you'd post your recent stuff here? :D

BTW that Grendel thing is simply far out. Much better than frying your hearing with headphones I bet!
  • Man Kirk I love the guitar tone on that sample!! Some very sweet playing as well bro!! 8)

Hello, I am the new owner of a GNX4.
I have no previous musical talent so it may be a while before I post anything worth listening too.

What I do have is some information that might help Shredd.
I've been following this forum for a while now and know he hates not to be able to download songs from soundclick without registering.
Well, I just might have a solution. It works for me, even though I don't have an ipod.
I'm also a computer dummy and found this out by trial and error.

When I click a link and it goes to the soundclick website, you can see a list of songs that a person has to play.
At the left are two little arrows, one for lo-fi and one for hi-fi.
I have found that it doesn't really matter which one I click since I have a dial-up connection and its slow anyway.
When I click either arrow, it opens the little player window and starts to play the song.
After the song has completely finished loading, what you do next depends on which browser you use and which computer you have.
I'm using a Windows ME computer.I use the Firefox browser, but it also works with Internet Explorer.

After the song has completely loaded by the player, find the internet cache folder that is used by your browser. The Firefox and Internet Explorer cache folders are located in different places on my computer.
On mine, the Firefox cache is located under,
    C-Windows-Application Data-Mozilla-Firefox-Profiles-c9qtbs2n.default-Cache.
With Internet Explorer, it's under C-Windows-Temporary Internet Files-Content.IE5.
Once you find the internet cache folder for your browser, it's a lot easier to find in the future.

After you open the cache folder, in Firefox, everything is called a file under the Type column.
With internet explorer, there's all different types of files listed. After the song has loaded by the soundclick player, kind of make a note of what time it is. The files in the internet cache are time stamped and dated.
Most of the files in the internet cache are small, like 1KB or 230KB, but the song files will be larger, like 2,130KB or 4,480KB, that's one tip that your finding the song file. That, and the time that you listened to the song on soundclick helps too.

When I did this test, in the firefox cache, the song, \"GrendelDeadRoom\" that I had just played had the name \"A87C6647d01\". And the size listed as 2,171KB.
With internet explorer, the cache file name was \"kgbmusicus+grendeldeadroom[1].\" And the file size was 2,171KB, the same size. Under the type column, the song is listed as SMIL.

I found that the song is an \"m3u\" file and needs to be changed to an mp3 file and I found a way to do that.
I always copy the song from the cache folder and paste it into another folder in case I mess it up the original is still in the cache.

If you copied the file from the Internet Explorer cache, it will look something like this.
    kgbmusicus+grendeldeadroom[1]
\"This is for Windows ME. If you have XP or Vista or something else, it might be different\".
In the folder where you copied the song to, click the \"Tools\" button at the top of the folder.
A menu drops down, click \"Folder Options\", a new little window opens. It has three tabs at the top,
\"General\", \"View\", and \"File Types\". Click the \"View\" tab. You will see a little window with items you can change by checking or unchecking the little boxes. Uncheck the box that says \"Hide file extensions for known file types\" and then click \"Apply\" and then click \"Ok\". Now go back to the song file and it will look something like this kgbmusicus+grendeldeadroom[1].m3u
Right click on the song title and click \"Rename\". Put the mouse arrow just to the right of the m3u and left click so the blinking cursor is at the end. Now push the backspace button 3 times to remove the m3u and then Type in mp3 and then click outside the box for the changes to take place.
The song will now look like kgbmusicus+grendeldeadroom[1].mp3

If you copied the file from the Firefox cache, it will look something like this.
A87C6647d01 but in this case you will not see the m3u at the end, I didn't. I don't know why, but the procedure is still the same. Right click the song title and then at the end put a .mp3
It will look something like this A87C6647d01.mp3
After you have changed the file extension at the end of the song title, you can play it with a music player on your computer and see how it works. If it works good, then you can go back and rename the file with a better name, just leave the .mp3 on the end of the new title.
You can also go back to the Folder Options window if you want and re-check the little box to once again \"hide the file extensions for known file types\", but if you change a file extension you have to un-hide it. If you change a lot of songs, which I don't, then you could just leave the box unchecked.

I hope you can reason this out depending on what computer setup and browser you use.
After you do this a time or two, it only takes a couple of minutes to change a song and rename it.

    Darrel.
  • Computer dummy my eye. That's amazing that you figured that out...I know people who still don't understand \"cut and paste\".

Anyway, my internet computer is a mac, so I'll have to figure out how it's done...but it's a good idea, recovering the audio from the cache....

Or maybe I'll just register at soundclick as iliace, and post a bunch of Celine Dion covers... :P :P
UPDATE: I've been unable to locate where the mac browser stores it's crup. I guess I'm the computer dummy...
