Which GNX for former RP user?

I have been an RP user for years. I have had the RP1, RP-3 and latley, the RP350.

I actually sold all of my Line 6 stuff and got the RP350 because I thought the sounds were much better with the newer Digitech Technology than what Line6 has.

While I enjoy the tones of the RP350, I really miss the ability to turn on/off various effects in a patch like the old RP's.

I am also interested in getting into some recording and looping.

After doing some research, it looks like the GNX series has more of what I am looking for. However, I am not sure which version is the right one for me.

It looks like the GNX3000 doesn't have the built in recorder anymore, but can still control the software when plugged into a computer. That is cool, but I like the idea of a built in recorder since I don't always play near my PC.

I am still not clear on what the GNX4 has over the GNX3. Is it just more models/tones? Is it using a new DSP technology (Audio DNA2 as oposed to Audio DNA)?

Would love to hear some suggestions from you guys who have experience with any of these units.

Thanks in advance!

  • From what you've posted, I'd pick the GNX4.
I owned the GNX3 before my '4, and an RP-3 before that. The big differences between the '3 and the '4 are MIDI v. USB interface; ability to play MP3's from the CF; storage media (SM v CF); number of models & presets; um...yah. I think the '4 is worth the extra bux.
Iliace has a link to a great page that compares them side by side. If we're lucky, he'll read this and post it.
But basically, the 3K has the edge on sound and models, while the '4 offers everything else.
  • Thanks to google, I found it here. http://guitarlogic.org/index.php?page=9

Based on the chart, I agree, it looks like the GNX4 is more what I am looking for.

Do you use it for home and live situations?
  • The great thing about the GNX4 is that no matter what other gear you may own, you will ALWAYS use it. Live, recording, MP3 player, midi player, heck I even use it to move pictures and install files from work to home via the CF card. It's an external drive, a soundcard, a mixer, an interface, a preamp, a processor.....great practise tool, it's an accompanyment, looper.......I think it will take a while to outgrow the thing.
  • Get the GNX4! 8) As someone once said. Iliace I think? It is the Swiss Army Knife for the guitarist. :D I think that is pretty darn acurate!!
  • I am getting ready to order my GNX4 in the next day or so, and have been putting together a list of the other items I will need:

    2gb CF card
Gig Bag (I have the one with my RP350, and it is great!)
    Power User's Guide.

BUT. I can't find a source for the Power User's Guide. All of the places that list them, say they are out of stock or out of print.

Anyone know of a source that has them in stock?

    Thanks,
