anyone play in a choir? Nashville area?

Syncopated rhythms, altered chords, and difficult? I'm having the time of my life playing in the church choir. I'd really like to hear or communicate with some other players in the same situation to see how they handle themselves. I would love to hear some soulful gospel choirs if anyone knows of any in the area.

  • Hi crjj, I am in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, I play with a praise team. Presently our worship leader is doing pretty much straight up mainstream Christian rock. A lot of Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Paul Baloche.

However our previous worship leader would delve into the more soulful side of the music spectrum. That was fun, we did one called \"Deep, Way Down Deep\", I think the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir made it popular. It was pretty much straight up gospel blues in E the way we did it. I managed to trade off blues licks with the keyboard player, like I said fun stuff. I wish we could do some more arrangements like that.

take care, welcome to the forum

    peace
  • hey mike, thanks for the response. Yes we're starting our 2nd Brooklyn Tab CD/Book. Alot of times it's hard to hammer out a guitar part because i don't know whether to pop those crazy chords on each eight note pattern or find a cool little repetitive lick to play over the whole thing. Or some of both. Sometimes it's cool to play a single note line when the chords are getting crazy or follow the melody line.

    But it is a blast!

I wish I could find some choirs in the Nashville area that do this type of thing regularly so I could go watch the guitarist. There are ALOT of churches in this area.

    Boy,i love Nashville :D 8) 8)

and go to some of the Southern Baptist Churches around TSU and Bordeaux.......theres some great gospel goin on !!! 8) Your not going to find \"energy\" in \"Brentwood\"
  • I looked up churches in that area. There must have been a hundred! Anyone know of any churches that regularly have an upbeat gospel choir in the Spring Hill/Nashville area?
