Ovation VXT

Howdy all. I picked up a \"scratch & dent\" VXT (http://www.thevxt.com/)from the local GC this week and got the chance to try it out leading Worship at church this morning. I am impressed.

I plugged in using the stereo cable with the acoustic running through a 7 band DOD eq and into the house. Great acoustic tone. Even my keyboardist, the ultimate gear snob, thought it sounded good. Mellow lows, crisp highs, everything I could have wanted. The Fishman bridge and imaging preamp coaxed more tone out of the guitar than I had expected. This doesn't sound like an acoustic modeled electric. It sounded as good as my buddy's Taylor 314.

I ran the electic side to the PA through my GNX-3 and used an AC 30 patch for the more upbeat stuff and a Fender Twin patch for the more low-key tunes, with both patches coming from the venerable Supermodels disc (which is absolutely amazing - Thanks G3456). The '59s had no problem punching through with the AC 30 and had a rich shimmer with the Twin. I had both acoustic and electric set at equal levels on the guitar, and controlled how much electric came through with the volume pedal on the -3. It worked so well, I had one person ask me where the other guitarist was.

All in all, I'd say that this is a great guitar, especially when coupled with a GNX. You can dial in the exact tone you need, and switching guitars is as easy as turning a knob. I think Ovation has a keeper here.
