... my trusty, faithful and quite reasonably priced Ibanez RG 270DX. Got home from the airport last night. Opened my luggage today. Neck broken straight through to the fingerboard above the neck splice. I always liked the way that neck played- cheap as it was. I don't know what the airline will give me for it yet. I have to take it back to the airport again so that their claims dept. can look at it. Oh joy, another 2 hour drive. At least maybe this will help me justfy to my wife a the custom 7 string I have been longing for.

Oh, man, my condolences. That's tragic. I hope the airline comes through for you, at least.
Ya know, even if an ax isn't pricey, it can still be a sentimental favorite; and often, they play really well. Sometimes you're just used to it and like the feel.
Just thank your lucky starz it wasn't my dream ax (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230210740735&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013). Not that I'd ever trust an ax like that to ANYone, but if an airline broke it's neck, I'd be looking for airline employee's necks to break. :evil:

Man that stinks! My first guitar was an Ibanez 470DX. Mine was made in Japan which as Ibanez guitars go are the best! Like you said the neck was fantasic & stayed in tune pretty well as long as I stayed away from the trem. Anyhow mine is in someone elses hands now still going strong I persume? Deffinetly should be justification for a new guitar! 8)

I paid about $100 for a guitar case that is supposed to be rated for airline baggage. Did you have your guitar in a similiar case or just a gig bag? Just wondering how best to protect my ax(ex) if ever I have to fly with them. Tough luck on your ax at any rate. Hope your new one will be great. Take care.

I was using an old ESP hardcase that I got with my LTD M207. The case was pressboard and already cracked in one spot anyway, so maybe not the best choice on my part. But my only other hard case is my PRS hardcase and that is form fitted to the PRS so I can't use it for anything else. Check out the aluminium hard cases on rondomusic.com. I might go for one of those.

If I was looking for a flight case I wouldn't buy it unless they
let me jump up and down on it a few times to test its integrety.
But in all seriousness, If you can't afford a real flight case next time
try going to your local music store and see if you can get a shipping
carton that would fit your case. Or maybe rent a flight case although
it might cost you as much to rent one as to buy one. Of course the best thing would be to carry it on in a gig bag. I also know a couple of
people who pull the necks off of their strats and pack them in a carry
on suitcase when they fly.

I'm sorry to hear about your guitar. But I assure you that if you look (...and hopefully you are compensated) that you'll be able to find one that will cause you to forget about this guitar.

I've seen alot of necks on ebay b4....just a thought

Got a payoff of $490 today. That was for the guitar and the case. They kept both of them. They overpaid me on the case because they went with what my local shop gave me on the first estimate. I told them before that he overpriced the case, but I'm not complaining. Most of this will go for the guitar that I'm getting built, but I will keep my eyes out for something cheap and used so I have another spare 6 string. - Anyway, I was asking for opinions on the guitar I am getting built, not the one I lost. Any inputs?

Quality tuners. Ebony fretboard is a tasty addition. Good electricals - pots, jack, wiring, caps, even p'ups (or you'll just end up changing them out later).

its the main reason why i only believe in taking a bolt on guitar on planes.I just break it down with a spare set of strings and a multitool.Of course...lately....i've kept clean out of airports opting for 5000 mile roadtrips instead.BFE???.yeah,i've been there

I'm not sure I'd have the guts to take ANY git'r I really valued on an airplane unless it was in one of those bulletproof ATA cases. And if I still had my old Strat, or my Musician, or any of my Gibby ES's - I wouldn't even consider entrusting them to an airline, or anyone else for that matter. :?

you could always buy another ticket and put it in the seat next to you
