Equal temperkent is an interesting idea. basically applicable to classical guitar.
buzz fenten best alternative in modern terms. Why not jus ho fretless and trust your ears?
Hey Shredd, you reckon you're having problems with ya nuts!
Can you imagine the potential disaster waiting to happen with a neck like this?? :?
No kiddin'. I have enough trouble handling my nut problems.
The good news is, a zero-fret seems to have cleaned up the problem on my Dean ac/el, so i didn't even put the graphite nut on the Dean.
And I took the 'binez in for a tune-up and haveta see if it did the job. He left the graphite nut on (put a shim under it), did some neck adjusting and bridge work and intonation, then we put on some ceremonial gowns and did a tuning dance around it, while beseeching the gods of pitch to smile favorably upon it. It oughtta play better now...
Worth noting: I first saw something like this from Yamaha for Frank Gambale (amazing jazz guitarist and shredder). I believe they only used the special frets on the top three to five frets where tuning variations from string to string can get a little wiggy sometimes.
I've NEVER seen the approach taken all the way down the fretboard. This would play havoc with your muscle memory. Erk.
Watch new Vai videos whenever they come out to see if he did in fact get that new fretboard installed on all his guitars. That's saying something about the technology. Still, would definitely affect playing till you got used to the new fret positions.
One of the comments on the second Vai video makes a GOOD comment about bending notes (ala blues). It wouldn't work very well for a full step or step and a half bend. Hrm...

Yeah they look like some drunk frets. Steve Vai sounds excited about it. He shows it near the end of this video:
