Married?

If so, how do you find/arrange time to play?

  • I'm not married (surprised?), so the only obstacles I have to playing all I want is this \"job\" issue, and other interests, and motivation.
  • I have been married to this (my 2nd) wife for 13 years. She knows my passion for music and has no problem with me spending an hour or so a day in my music room. If I am working on a project she gives me space and waits on the finished product. which she is not bashful about critiquing. :?
  • I have been married for 22 years and have always played music, my wife has little or no real interest but endeavours to listen to me when out,
aswel as accepting music has always been a major interest in my life. 8)

As for playing time thats simple,, I hate TV! never watch the thing, whereas the delightful missus loves it and spends a couple of hours each night locked into various soaps etc.

Giving me plenty of time to slowly sink deeper into my inept practise regime. Whilst not detracting from her programs audible quality by always wearing wireless headphones allowing me freedom of movement..

All in all a very harmonious relationship. Of course the amp only gets cranked up when she's at work and I have the house to myself..
  • 25 years married here, and if I don't play, there's no food on the table.
We've been through hard times and good times, but finally, music is always there and it pays the bills.
Golden rule? Be respectful and comprehensive to each other's job.
Peaceful and happy New Year for all of you.
  • My wife,of 12 years, plays accoustic guitar very well :D so we actually play together(not often enough though :( )When i sold my Plymouth Barracuda,it was her idea that i put the money into my dream studio :D the problem is,i wish i could record more .....but thats life (and i know its there when i do have the time)
  • Married 7 years May 5th! 8) I have 3 great kids as well! I play & record & such as much as I can. I think what works best for me is when the kids are in Bed and wife is at TV or a work night works well for focused guitar time! Thank the good Lord I play on a Worship Team at my Church!! So I'm playing with others at least 2 times a week! If it were not for that I would more & likely not even play every week  There would just be those busy weeks & feeling no inspiration to play & I would not. I feel for me the hardest part sometimes is just getting started!! Once I start playing & working on stuff I have trouble putting it down & stopping!
  • Married 19 years. I have my music time with the boys and she has her nights out with the girls. When we have a gig, she invites her girlfriends. Only wish I had more time to dedicate to the music. Although we are now getting paid for our gigs, I'll never make a living playing music - I'm just not that good. Still, I really enjoy it and my wife knows I could get into alot more trouble doing something else. Although my wife is not too impressed, her girlfriends think it is cool that her husband is in a (classic) rock band. It would be great if my wife was more musically inclined, but at least she supports my time off with the boys. Best wishes.
  • She understands that it is theraputic and that I'm a better person when I've spent time with my gear.......
  • Never becomes an issue...
We don't talk anyway...Less arguments that way...

I do practice watching TV all the time..
Sit back in my chair, with my axe, and pick out the background and theme songs...
  • Married 5 yrs. to a understanding woman that lets me play whenever I want, actually it's never been a problem :D
  • I have been with my wife for 25 years ( married for 18 ) She gave me
    a fender strat for chistmas 10 years ago :D . Last year a GNX4
This year BX8a`s . She started the GAS pains now she can't complain
about the time or $$ I spend on it :)

Touche! Can't let it sit there gathering dust. My co-worked complained to me one time, \"I got my husband a PSP and now all he does is play it!\" Baby, what did you expect? :D
  • After 24 years, 10 months, 2 weeks, 4 days, 12 hours and.....53 minutes....you each do what you want, when you want (until one of you wants the other person for something)
  • I have a Steinberger Synapse at work that I practice with on breaks/lunch etc. What a luxury it is to be able to play at work!

I usually get several hours on my off-days to play.

I also workout religiously so I really have to perform a real balancing act. This requires getting up at 4:30 AM and heading to the gym so I'm not taking away time from my husband/father duties.

Nonetheless, I still make time to be with my wife daily. If she starts watching TV, I can usually retreat to my guitar. Sometimes I bring my GNX4 and guitar in the living room and plug into it with headphones while she's watching CSI or Law and Order.

My wife's always playing my instrument !

I am very fortunate in that my recording studio is also my home-office. It is not directly accessible from the house, you have to walk through the garage and up some stairs. Our toddlers never come to the studio because I warned them of the dangerous equipment in the garage so when the door opens, nine times out of ten it's my wife coming to spend some time with me and she's usually wearing one of her naughty Halloween costumes (naughty schoolgirl or DEA officer) to assure her of my undivided attention

On road-trips I take my laptop which is loaded with Guitar Rig 3 and other similar products and I carry one of those mini travel guitars. This stuff keeps me out of the hotel bars.

  • Been married 28 years. Had my new guitar (the Washburn HB-35) for two weeks before she asked whose guitar I was playing. All she said was are you going to give that one away too. (Last year 2006 Christmas, I gave my Mexican Stratocaster to someone who needed a gift for his son).

I guess Tal and I must be married to sisters and didn't know it. I plug into my GNX-3 and listen through the headphones while she watches TV.

Here's another wife story. Years ago when the Georgia Satelites were getting hot, I put their album on the turn table and played along with Battleship Chains until I had felt good about it. Her comment was you know you played it eleven times in a row. Only seemed like two or three to me. So you know she must have been tired of hearing the song over and over, but she never asked me to stop until I was ready. Now that is true love.
  • Been married for 23 1/2, been together for 26. Was playin music when
we met. When I feel like playin, I play. I also like being with my wife
and make time for us also. It's not that hard to do. I don't give her
any crap about havin five animals either. It's give and take.
Biggest lessons learned, Anything you say can and will be used against
you at a latter date and time. Nodding your head and keeping your mouth
shut will go along way. It's more important to be the right person
than to find the right person. And yes I am a MENOPAUSE surviver.

  • I was playing guitar when I met my wife almost 18 yrs ago. We were friends for a year before we started going out. She has NEVER had a problem with me playing the guitar. In fact, she thinks it's great that my 8 yr old has an interest in playing. We bought him a mini strat and it sits in the living room. There are many times when I grab it to play while watching the game. If my son sees me playing it, he asks for it and starts playing.

By the way, most kids learn twinkle-twinkle little star or something like that as their first riff. My son heard me play the opening riff to Rainbow's \"Eyes of Fire\" and was learning it before I bought him the mini.

I'm a proud father who is raising a son who is a Ritchie Blackmore fan. Does it get any better than that?
  • been married a little over a year now and I can proudly say my wife fully supports my practice time. It's more about what the kids are doing though.
But I just bought myself a nice little Roland Micro Cube amp, so now I can come out of my hiding spot when I jam!!!
  • Man, a lot of you blokes have been married for a long time...... you all must be really, really old!:lol::lol:

I've heard naughty outfits are another sign of age/running outta puff....but congrats on the creativity.

Only a coupla years for me so I guess our marriage is still at that stage where we are mimicking rabbits.  But I hear that wears off after 5 years....

Absolutely not! We choose to do this stuff because we want to...not because we need to.
There are many, many 20yo girls that would kill to look like my 35yo wife, props are absolutely not necessary. The fantasy stuff just makes things that much more intense. I remember the time that we were traveling from Venice to Milan on the almost-empty 'SuperRapido' train.....but this is the wrong forum...

I was bored of my first wife after one year of marriage. I made the mistake of marrying her just because she was a hottie to look at but that was it. My current wife is definitely my true soul-mate and after 10 years, even we find it odd that we can't seem to pass each other in the house without having contact.

Couples that PLAY together, STAY together

My wife was wearing that stuff before we were even married...so you couldn't be more wrong
  • Oog. Now you guys are just rubbing it in. I haven't had my hands on anything but my Ibanez's neck in ages. Stop rubbing it in already.:cry:

    :lol::lol:
Man I should be a fisherman going by the bites I'm gettin here!! Top stuff!
Now I said I'd heard that about dressing up - didn't mean I was a true believer. I'll take it anyway its wrapped !

The 'SuperRapido' train huh Mickster? I gather then thats the perfect place for a quicky??
  • A couple of other things I might add being an oldster, My wife reads more than I play, but alot of times while she's reading I'll play my acoustic. We'll sit at the table together doing our own thing, but we're at the same time being together. I don't always go off into another room and play and make her feel isolated from me. Besides she won't hesitate to tell me if something I'm playing really sucks. I trust her ear and she knows when it's right or not. And if you really want some points, write everything you love and adore about her and put it in a song and sing it to her or whomever your significant other is at the time. They'll love it.
Last thing many may have heard before is never walk out the door with with her mad at you or you mad at her because if something ever happened you certainly wouldn't want it to be her last memory of you
and she'd have to live with that the rest of her life. And if the first thing you do when you get home is head straight to your guitar before her,
You deserve whatever wrath she deals you.

Usually I give her a kiss - then I head straight for the guitar :P
