HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Main article: Yule
Pagan Scandinavia celebrated a winter festival called Yule, held in the late December to early January period. Yule logs were lit to honor Thor, the god of thunder, with the belief that each spark from the fire represented a new pig or calf that would be born during the coming year. Feasting would continue until the log burned out, which could take as many as twelve days.[4] In pagan Germania (not to be confused with Germany), the equivalent holiday was the mid-winter night which was followed by 12 \"wild nights\", filled with eating, drinking and partying.[12] As Northern Europe was the last part to Christianize, its pagan celebrations had a major influence on Christmas. Scandinavians still call Christmas Jul. In English, the Germanic word Yule is synonymous with Christmas,[13] a usage first recorded in 900.

Sheesh!! All I was doing was wishing everyone a happy CHRISTmas - didn't exactly mean we need to have a debate on the meaning of it all! So however you spend CHRISTmas, just enjoy it and be thankful for what you have.
Oh yeah, and Partch, considering my mates and I have just spent the last 6 weeks fundraising for needy kids this CHRISTmas, I'll just ignore your comment that we Aussies know nothing about the true meaning of it all. I think we've earned a trip to the coast! But don't worry, we forgive you!
Luke 2
The Birth of Jesus
1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register.
4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
The Shepherds and the Angels
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, \"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.\"
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14\"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.\"
15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, \"Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.\"
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
Footnotes:
Luke 2:11 Or Messiah. \"The Christ\" (Greek) and \"the Messiah\" (Hebrew) both mean \"the Anointed One\"; also in verse 26.
Wow, Partchie. That was rough. Certainly you, of all people, don't think Christmas is an American thing.
On another note, those of you that have HBO, \"The Nativity Story\" is nothing short of incredible. I had chills at the birth of Jesus. It was great.
Hey Ed me & BBoo already talked. We have an Understanding. You know Ed for sure I'm not the best at communicating through writting!! I can see now how that statement could have been taken the wrong way & was & I appologized.
All I meant was him living in Austrailia he was most likely not aware of how political correctness wants to eliminate anything to do with Christ. He don't live here so how could he know that they want to change names of holidays, stop you from putting up a nativity? So the Xmas verses Christmas thing just set me off & like I said I explained to him & he understands now. I realy did not mean to come across that way seriously! Open mouth insert foot
Anyway...partch has a point about all the P/C cr*p in the USA. Even a non-aligned self like me was just dumbstruck that year (was it last year?) that someone decided saying \"Merry Christmas\" was inappropriate 'cuz it didn't include everyone and might offend someone. Good gawd.
It's what makes us DIFFERENT that keeps it interesting. Besides, the last time anyone had an entire nation all thinking the same thing it was 1930's Germany, and look how THAT turned out.
And complaining about the shortened version of the word Xmas is just....silly (it was done because we are lazy, and cna't tpye...)
...\"Herding cats\"...
It's all good Partchie. Just wanted to make sure we're on the same page.
Along the same lines as squashing Christmas for political correctness, I currently am on contract for a city gov't agency. They are notorious for telling people to remove items from the work place that may seem \"offensive to others.\" I am thrilled to say that this is one place that simply doesn't care about being PC about Christmas. Throughout the entire office, you hear people playing their radios tuned to the same station, Christmas Carols. I have to say that it actually brings a festive feel to the whole office. Our office is so diverse, it looks like the United Nations. Everyone enjoys it and nobody has a problem with it.
Maybe the rest of the country can take a page out of this office's book.
Happy holidays

\"HAPPY KRINGLE\"!

I'm wishing everyone a very merry christmas and happy and safe holidays. Lock away that credit card. It'll make everyone much happier.
Partch we have PC here in Aus. too, you know. It's come the the point that school teachers cannot talk about christmas, sing carols or hand decorations in school because it might \"offend people of alternative faiths\". That really annoys me.... kids just want to get into the spirit of the season, whatever faith they adopt.
btw-i got a 195 ft stripper pole for Christmas
alright,alright,...........its a cell phone tower  It will be fun hangin a flag on it
