Need Christmas Music Ideas for 4 piece band

I am in a standard 4 piece (lead, rhythm, bass, drums) rock/folk/country bar band. We booked an afternoon Christmas gig at the local Mall for PR purposes (i.e. we don't get paid). Anyway, does anyone have suggestions for some holiday music that we could learn in a couple of weeks? It would have to be fairly easy to learn and sound good with our setup. We are not required to play Christmas music, but I think it would be nice to have some holiday songs in keeping with the season. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • We play punk/rock versions of

    Jingle Bells

    Up on the Housetop

    Then we change classics around

    Mustang Santa (Sally)

Chris mess (Cold Gin) about a guy that hates wrapping gifts

Santa's All right now (all right now ) just make new lyrics and chorus starts with Santa's.

American Christmas ( American Idiot) lyrics that go with Christmas shopping problems, parking and what gifts NOT to get

Under the Tree (Beverly Hills) remade about a guy who has tough luck, no money, decorates a tree that has missing lights, gets shocked by an icicle and wakes up under his gf's tree. How he got there is the last verse! Think Christmas magic and elves.

Santa Santa (Jenny Jenny ) and instead of 867-5309 we get em singing C-H-R-IS, T-M-A-S

Mess around with easy songs. People love when you make song parodies that are fun. If you do them from songs they already know, they catch on real fast
  • Changing the lyrics on songs we already know. That might work. Good suggestion.
  • Gary Hoey has 2 rock Xmas instrumental CD's (Ho Ho Hoey)...some metal, some surf...all good...(the only Christmas music I can listen to)
  • Chet Atkins did some really nice Christmas songs.
He was one of my earliest influences...so I am fond of him, but I've yet to know anyone not like \"Jingle Bell Rock.\"

This isn't Chet...but a good version by Ray Cummins.

Also, go to the Ultimate Guitar tab site, and look under Misc. Christmas Tabs. There will be a big list of favorites there and some in Guitar Pro format.

  • Years (many :( ) ago we played a Christmas concert. One of the songs we played was Oh Holy Night. At the chorus, I mistakenly kicked on the distortion channel, and it turned into an 80's ballad. But, the audience seemed to love it. I've been playing it like that (with the distortion turned down a lot) ever since.
  • One christmas show I did a solo jazz arrangement for Deck the Halls, which I adopted from a Guitar World or something along those lines.

Another christmas show, we played a guitar/bass duet of Tocatta and Fugue in D minor. The one from Fantasia, in case you're unfamiliar.
  • Johnny Langs Version of Santa Claus Is Back In Town is pretty easy....Here's the Lyrics...

Santa Claus Is Back In Town:

Well, it's Christmas time pretty baby
And the snow is fallin' on the ground (Christmas, Christmas)
Well, it's Christmas time pretty baby
And the snow is on the ground (Christmas, Christmas)
Well, you be a real good little girl
Santa Claus is back in town (Christmas, Christmas)

Got no sleigh with reindeer, no sack on my back
You're gonna see me comin' in a big black Cadillac

Whoa oh it's Christmas time pretty baby
And the snow is fallin' on the ground (Christmas, Christmas)
Well, you be a real good little baby
Santa Claus is back in town

    (Christmas, Christmas Christmas)

Hang up your pretty stockings, turn off the light
Santa Claus is comin' down your chimney tonight

Whoa oh oh oh it's Christmas time pretty baby (Christmas)
And the snow is fallin' on the ground
(Christmas, wah wah wah wah wah Christmas)
Well, you be a real good little baby
Santa Claus is back in town
    (Christmas, Christmas Christmas)

That would have been technically challenging, no?
  • Technically challenging, half-@ssed, whatever you want to call it... people loved it, though.
  • I would have! 8) I love that song... gives me shivers down my spine most of the time.
  • How about that TSO song, Chrismas in Sarajevo I think? That's a good one for the holiday season, readily recognized.
  • If you guys do We Are The World, you're banned for life.
