    BAD NEWS
OK the guitar got here...long story short never ship from china to usa in a flimsy cardboard box. Always put a box inside a box with stuffing.
both volume knobs tweeked over endenting spyuce top under knobs ...scratch in top...tuning key broken...and the truss rod seems striped or stuck too...as its a guy in china.... hes not responcible for shipping offerd no insurance so I am stuck.

Good news...this guitar looks great kinda a tobacco burst very vintage kewl...a bit too glosy but thatll do. It fixed easiely and plays like no other 500 dollar neck I have ever played right outta the box with 13s....The humbucker is mellow and sweat or brassy and sharp and has a very wide range of vintage tones. It was very cool with leads through the bad monkey as well ...I have played high dollar Gibson, taylor, martin acoustics that did not have as playable or freindly a neck as this one...truley a keeper try one out if you can find one in a store...the necks are like Les pauls flat and wide but bound and solid. VERY electric like and for the price very Gigable.... IMHO A great rocknroll acoustic. Its not a Gibson at all...not as well built or as solid...but against any other acoustic in its price range it more than holds its own. What it doesnt have in 7 band eqs with knotch filters and peizos this guitar makes up for with p100 humbucking vintage warmth and vibe. if you like to march to the beat of a diffrent drummer this might be worth checking out ... its overall bang for the buck Value is way high IMHO. Oh yea its a john lennon signature model so thats on the top too... whatever. 8)
  • Nice guitar man.

Shame about it being damaged :( .

I would love to order a Nuno Bettencourt Sig, but I know it would arrive in pieces :)
  • 8) I don't have a problem with mail order guitars ...heck @ MF or GC theyll takem right back....

just do not order from some dude in China (i originaly thought the shipment was from canada) who probaly ripped it off the assembaly line and then sells em ...then doesnt packem up worth a sh1t3 and sends them halfway around the world. :x
I'll live and so will the guitar its being fixed as we speak.

I really thought I was smarter than this...
oh well boys and girls ... try to learn from uncle Dans stupid mistakes.
  • Yea, i agree with what you're sayin. I actually ordered my Strat of the net in the UK, but thats cause I was livin in the UK at the time. But now I live in a place where I would have to order from abroad and that would give me sleepless nights
  • 8) As it turns out the asian fellow is a heck of a nice guy and refunded me the repair plus a few for upgrades. 8)

 now I can upgrade the tuners (Grovers 135n) and get an earvanna nut and bridge...Alls well that ends well...:lol:
  • ODB,

I'm glad to hear the fellow came through for you. Have you used the Earvana system before? If so, what do you see as the advantages? any problems?

  • \"Have you used the Earvana system before? If so, what do you see as the advantages? any problems? \"

I really like the earvanna nut I have on my Variax 300. The Variax needed some setup luv when I first got it and I was able to get everything but the intionation right. The earvanna is adjustable at the nut so it fixed the issue.
The added benifit was its harder to pull chords out of tune by gripping them too tight as I sometimes do. also the corian like matterial they use is slick so no binding at the nut. It made a so-so variax into a very stable solid tuning instument so I am sold.

Earvanna just came out with a bridge to go with the nut so I am putting the whole system on my acoustic. I think it kicks an average playing guitar up a notch. If you guitar stays in tune and the intionation and action are great...I would not switch for the heck of it though. because in a already well playing guitar it might be harder to tell the benifits. I definatley can due to my over grip on open chords like open Ds and such.
also as you play bar chords high on the neck they sound more intune to me as I play.

    hope that helps Peaceout!
  • wow ...really suprised and happy for you that the guy gave you somethin back to fix it....right on!!
looks and sounds way cool...I like the wide flat necks for acoustics

so did it relieve you GAS?...... yeah right !

I like the electric feel of the neck too.
as for GAS I guess it did cause i'm too busy learning happy hr songs on it right now. LOL!
  • OK I thought I would finish up my review of the EPI JL after the honeymoon phase was over.

the good its a very playable reasonabley priced acoustic. I put on some cool grover tuners and an earvanna saddle and nut repaired all loose glues joints etc.

The Bad After owning a Gibson and haveing owned so many \"affordable\" guitars in my past I have reached a point were they just dont inspire me much anymore... I am too old to play cheap guitars...there I said it. I am not being snooty but darn it I would rather wait three years and get one great guitar that I can hang onto and let my kids have when I die, than spend 300 bucks every year on cheap fiddles that I constantly just want a little more quality or craftmanship out of....so it leaves me chaseing tone. When I was in my twentys being able to afford a guitar thats like the one of your dreams is great. I mean how would you know what you liked if you couldnt afford diffrent model guitars to try out. So I will play the heck out of this and take it camping and whatnot cause its still a very fun guitar. But there comes a time when you need to get a real Martin or Taylor not the chinses ones either...spend a 1500 or more and get a few quality peices you can stick with and will inspire you for years to come. Like maybe a cherry es 335 or a USA custom Strat....Looks like i better start saving now so i can afford one before I die  :lol:
  • Thats why I saved all my pennies for a year & 1/2 to get this PRS

    Yum.
You guyz are killin' me...'cuz all this talk of quality axes reminds me of some of the git'rs I owned when I was young n dumb and didn't realize I should keep them 'til the end of time. Gibson ES335 x 2, ES345 cherry red stereo, and ES355 stereo walnut brown. '72 Strat. '80 Ibanez MC300 Musician with coil taps. If I owned any one of them now I'd be jazzed, and if I still owned all of them (I had them all within a 5 year period  ) I'd be in git'r heaven.
Oh, to be young n dumb again, and have the CHANCE to hang on to any or all of these...

    That PRS is sweet.
  • I looove this guitar...light as a Strat, screams like a Paul...humbucker gain or a nice clean single coil...IT'S LIKE BUTTER!
