What r u working on right now??? Lics, tones, writing, etc?
Just thought that this might be a fun topic to hear what everyone is currently working on.
Are you working on your over all chops, tone, cover tunes for a band, song writing, a completely new style, recording, a specific technique, etc.?
For me:
It's all about Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen (VH I through 19984). I am going back and learning everything I can from both of these mad men.
I am simply LOVING how each plays under the vocals rather than just focusing on all of their spectacular leads.
But with that said I am also blow away with how melodic their lead work was.
And last but NOT least I am working on my TONE. And by tone I do not mean via my amp and pedals. I am more specifically paying attention to how my pick is hitting the strings, what my picking hand fingers are capable of (think Jeff Beck style finger picking), how my fretting hand can change my tone, pickup selection (using a Fender Strat), how many different ways vibrato can be used, mastering the volume knob on my guitar (once again Jeff Beck is the influence here), etc.
This search for tone comes from two areas: The first being all of the live video footage of Jeff Beck on YouTube. He just seems beyond human at times with how he manipulates the guitar to help him achieve the sounds and tones that he is looking for. I simply have never seen anything like it. He seems to use his picking fingers, the vibrator bar, volume and tone control at ALL times to help get the most VOCAL sound I have ever heard. It's one thing to listen to his CD's (Listen to BOTH Blow By Blow and Guitar Shop to get a really good feel for what he does at his best), but to watch it is beyond me. His use of every aspect of his instrument is simply the most amazing thing I have ever seen.
The second area or thing that has made me want to be much more coscience of these things is simply listening to my past recordings. The playing is fine, but I know that I could be getting a much better TONE than what I have been getting. And I do not meen sound (as in from my amp or pedals...that will always be a search and effort...getting a great guitar \"sound\" on \"tape\" is always something that will take a bit effort, and will always vary based on who is doing the recording, what the budget and time constraints are, etc....so that is not my first concern...but rather my fingers and what I actaully can produce on my instrument).

Good luck on that. I would love to hear some new tracks once you have that \"mastered\"
But I am writing also.
My Memoirs...which I will soon post here. I'm up to 337 pages. :?
snif-snif-snif...gnaw..chew...lick...snif...scratch-skritchskrittichty...lick-lick..slurp...SIGH.
Also I'm working on some solo pieces and songs.
I might post some here.

(For those who are not touch-typists: those two letters fall under the middle finger of the left hand.)
Ha, me too! I was off for 3 weeks without touching my guitar and I can't believe how much my fingertips softened up. :?
I'll drag them across hunnert-grit sand paper, or even use my Dremel on them. But sooner or later, I have to just tear them off.
New ones are always much nicer.
Lots of times I go several weeks between playin'. I'm not highly motivated.
I've noticed it takes a lot less time anymore to build new ones.
