Guitar disassembly question
Ok, I'm planning on refinishing my LTD F-50. I've got almost everything off of it and I'm about to start sanding. There's one problem, I can't get the base peices of the tune-o-matic bridge out, and the same with the string thru body string holders (I don't know the specific name of them). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help you give me.
Peace,

Removing those studs might be a mistake in my opinion. I'd mask them off and work around them. You might be able to make a drift to drive those string-through cases out.
If you really need the studs out, that is Luthier work. They are set in place by a tight fit, with fluted barrels, and also set up with a wood filler that hardens.
Every Luthier has his own special size drills he likes, uses templates and drill presses for the work. Your tone and sustain count on these being set perfectly. Your stud alignments have to have a certain angle to your neck radius, and body shape.
I'm not going to bore you with all the details of a Pro set up, and what is involved. You don't have a Pro set up anyway on that guitar, but regardless, what you do have could be lost if you screw with those studs.
Have fun, I've refinished a few myself, and later was really proud of what I did. EVH has a lot of guys stirred up right now...wanting to create their own Frankensteins.
Let us see your \"Monster\" when you get it done...okay? 8)
Stock up on the right supplies.
Yeah...now is a great time to upgrade those tune-o-matic bridges.
Tone-Pro is a good upgrade..
and a real easy retrofit is the Kahler...for the tune-o-matic style set ups.

Yes, he his. There is a lot more to painting a guitar than most people think. A while back, a fellow member followed his book, and painted his guitar. It came out great.
It also takes much more time than simply spraying the guitar with spray paint. If memory serves, you have to let it cure for a couple of months. But the end result is worth the wait.
Wow, that's pretty cool. There were some beautiful guitars in the \"user\" photos, but reading the website made me feel like I was watching an ad for Ginsu Knives. Especially the part... \"not $199, not $99, not $50, but only $27.99\". :P
Well, if I ever decide to tackle a paint job on my axe I'll probably get one of those books. Thanks for the tip.
