GNX as a bass rig??
I've recently gotten (more) into bass playing (and G/A/S never rests...)
So...I traded up from my Ibanez bass to this TERRibly tasty Peavey Grind; I've got a killer BBE preamp and a dbx comp/limiter, and a nice 4x10\" cab that's beggin' to be joined by a 1x15\"...which i'd pick up if I ever played out anywhere I needed that kinda volume.
I've also got a NADY 2-ch amp bridged to run it, and will run it in two-channel if I end up running two cabs.
Of course, at this point I'm still in my home studio plaing through my delicious 2031A's...
Now that I'm done braggin' on my new toys...here's the thing. I also picked up a DT BP200 for makin' kewl bass sounds...it's not bad, it allows you some of the capacities of a GNX...you can pick amps and cabs, do some twiddling of effects, etc.
BUT...what I've found is that, having been so badly spoiled by my '4, that the BP200 isn't floating my bass-playing boat. It doesn't have stompbox abiilties, the parameters you can assign to the expr'n pedal are very limited, yada yada.
SO...I have some pretty good bass patches made up in my GNX4, which I'm now putting on a CF card full of bass patches. So when I want to play bass, I either pick from the ones I have on my onboard User bank, or if I were to play out, I'd just have the CF card with all my bass patches to pop in.
So...do I even NEED the BP200 (despite it's being 1/10th the size of the GNX4)? 8)
All advice and opinions welcome. How do you keep your gear load down for a gig?

I would be interested in other bass players giving us some input here. Maybe there are some bass players who are actually using the GNX4 live as their bass pedal and can make some suggestions. Take care.
But I've had NO trouble whatsoever getting my '4 to do awesome things with a bass...it's got bass amps and cabs already in it, the effects work fine, and of course the EQ's are dial-able to any freq'y you want. And the effects, when you use them, sound great. I often use a chorus, or phaser, or flngr (sometimes in triggered mode), and I even have a \"ya-ya\" bass patch, which uses AutoWah and is really fun.
I don't play out really - I live in too small a town, and it's embarrassing to have hott chix point and laugh - but I think the GNX would work great, even just right into the board. That's essentially what I do in my studio, though I do play thru my 2031A's.
How 'bout it guys? Anyone play bas - or with a bass player - who uses a GNX? Or do they have some other bass toy? Or are they so Geddy Lee that effects are pointless???
Plus - hott groupies who like dumb guys always go for the bass player. (Don't look at me; I saw it on TV!!!
Let the TROLL WARS begin!
Hey, Shredd. Are you going to share your bass patches for the GNX4?
I liked it, twas kool
I tried running bass>BP200>amp effects return (no preamp), and it worked just fine. So I'm thinking of hitting some open mic's around here, just throw my bass in the bag and the BP200 and some cords in the pocket, and see what comes out of the wash. I'm no Stanley Clarke, but maybe I could sit in on a song here n there. The only thing is: every open mic I've gone to around here has featured mostly young singer/songwriter types, doing their own stuff I wouldn't know... :?
I've used an RP50 live and that was one of the deciding factors to go invest in a 4. What an upgrade that was huh ? :P
I don't listen to ppl who say a bass can't be used with \"this or that\".
yes it can.
see.
pfffft!
I'm interested in your bass patches. Are you going to link them for us or post them somewhere? Take care.

They all start with \"bass\" and are in the \"other\" section. Lemme know if you like them, hate them, whatever...
These are done with my GNX4, Peavey Grind 4-string neck-thru bass, 105-45 D'Addario's, out to Berhinger 2031A's.
If they don't sound perfect to you, it's 'cuz I made them with Shania Twain draped around my neck.
I downloaded the bass patches tonight. I hope to try them out this weekend. Take care.
