10\" Speakers

here's a few choices: assuming 8 ohm impedance

Eminence Beta 10CX- this has a great full range driver and is coaxial. May work great for GNX aps, but have not tried any 10 variables.

Eminence Lil Buddy 10's

Jensen Mod10-70-8 supposed to be for modelers.. cheap design

Jensen C10Q-8 same as above, just handles more power

I'm in the process of hunting down a 10\" speaker and thought someone else might have an interest in some other alternatives.

First, I spoke with the folks at US Speaker who advised against the Jensen Mods for connecting to a modeling amp (subtle irony), as they are not as neutral as one might want, and also not as clean. This doesn't mean they're bad, just not optimal for my needs.

They suggested I look at two Eminence bass speakers, the Beta 10A (which Eminence states is \"also suitable for vocal, P.A., keyboards, club music and stage monitors\") and the Basslite S2010 which has a neodymium magnet.

I will probably go with the Beta 10A, given what Eminence says about its versatility, and also because they say it is better suited to a sealed cab like the one I've got.

EDIT: Poking around the Eminence site, I also see the Alpha 10A might also be good for small sealed cabs; it has lower power (150w) but more high-end frequency range. And a bit less pricey too. :)

  • Just following up: I did get the Eminence Beta 10A. This is an excellent speaker! Reasonably full frequency range, very rich sound. Can't wait for it to break in!

My 1x10 \"cab\" was an old, small Peavey keyboard combo that was not functioning properly. I ripped out the amp and replaced that two-way speaker with the Beta. I'm powering it with a Crate Powerblock. It gets loud but doesn't mush up or fart out. Really an excellent combination with my GNX3K. I'm sure this speaker would be magic in a 2x10\" cab.

So, if you're looking for a 10\" speaker, I highly recommend checking out the Beta 10A.
