Dean Vendetta 4.0 or Ibanez RGT42?

Hi everybody!
I am looking for a new guitar at the moment. Preferably a neck through model, to be used as a shredding/soloing machine.

2 models that I am interested in are the Dean Vendetta 4.0 - neck through, string through
and the Ibanez RTG42 - neck through and whammy

I would most likely replace the pickups in whatever I get with DiMarzio evolutions.

Any advice would be appreciated!

  • I just had an RGT42BP one of the first models w/basswood sides not mahagony. Very kewl guitar indeed and very well made but mine lacked the personal mojo I look for. they sound great with Evolution buckers in them but I already had an Evo guitar. the INF`s in mine where not bad pickups ....I found this out after 15 dif Dimarzios.

You can pick these up on the bay for about $300 and they sold for $800
lot of Ibanez guys have no faith in the Korean builds (I'm not sure why) again it's a fine guitar.

Evolution bridge if you find alittle much in the upper mids (alot do) try the Evo2/Evolution Neck combo which is my current favorite in my RG1570.
  • Thanks for the reply. I was always sorta leaning towards the ibanez.... if a large amount of virtuosos use them (Vai, Petrucci, Satch etc etc) i figure they must have something going for them in regards to lead playing :)
  • Well 'hoot...Ibanez's are often used by some pretty killer git'rists, and have made many killer models. I personally own one I just love...
That said, I also have a Dean Exotica QS elec/acous with Fishman electronics, which is pretty fine.
But for an electric, I'd go with the Ibanez. Dean elec's tend to be geared only toward shred/metal...I know you're into that stuff, but the Ibanez's do that very well and are also much more versatile...
    FWIW....
