NEED A 7 STRING! HELP

hey guys. anyone who is/knows someone who is selling a 7 string? I really want one to play some songs, but I dont wanna spend like 350 bucks on something i'll use every now and then. Im thinking something along the lines of the Ibanez RG7321? its just a plain ibanez 24 fret with bolt on bridge. 24 frets are a must, but the rest doesnt matter. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?? thank you and any help is greatly appreciated :)

  • 7-strings are difficult to find in stores nowadays. I have Ibanez 7221 model, it's only 22 frets but it does the trick for me (we wanted to cover a King's X song so I needed one). Basically I went to a used music shop and got the only one they had. It's not in great shape either - neck volume potentiometer is buzzy (or maybe the pickup), 10th fret is worn at high strings, etc. But again, it does the trick.
  • yea thats pretty much what im lookin for. somethin that just gets the job done. But i love the 24 fret ibanez necks! there killer. i found an rg7321 on musicgoround shipping from CA for 299 and a green one with a trem for 299, so that might just be my best bet. The tremolo is also a major plus, but i didnt think i'd find one lol
  • Why do you need 24 frets? If you really need to go a tone higher just bend and/or use the whammy....
  • well yea that is true i oculd do that, but i just liek how the frets i normally play on (about 12-19) are not as close to the body as they are on a 22 fret guitar, so i have more room. Plus i learn a ton of petrucci solos and he bends the 24th in just about every one
  • This one doesn't have 24 frets, but has 22 and is fairly cheap:

I've heard some great things about Rondo guitars from people in this (and other) forum.
  • You sure you got the right link? cuz that blue Agile Interceptor, tho being the 7 string of my dreams with the right bridge and pickups, actually has 24 frets and isnt very cheap haha. idk maybe 500 is just too much for me. great guitar tho! thanks for the help
  • You will never get your dream guitar unless you want to part with a large amount of cash; if you want a cheap guitar you will have to make some compromises.

Despite what the manufacturers would have us believe, the neck shouldnt (and doesnt if you are good enough) impact that much on your shredding. The things that i find impact most is the action, strings and pick. For instance Yngwie has a strat - with the great big neck joint and that obviously doesnt affect his shredding. Also, Vai's jems have largish neck joints too.

I dont believe there are many cheap shreddable (ie low action, nice neck) 7 strings around...

Wow, after taking a second look, it does have 24 frets. I stand corrected.

500 is really not a lot for a decent 7 string guitar.
  • yea, thats true. and the emgs and floyd rose bridge bring up the price a tad, cuz i can get that rg7321 for like 399 new. but wow that interceptor guitar is so damn cool looking! i MIGHT just wanna splurge a little more money and get that one. ill go up to GC and find one with those pickups and play that to see if i really need a 7 string that nice, or if i should just get a cheapo to use on some songs. Thanks for that link tho that site is awesome

I disagree, I own an Epi 7-string Les Paul, a Squier 7-string fat strat (not stagemaster), and an ESP M207, so I have the gambit in neck types. You can shred on just about any guitar that's set up correctly, but some neck types are more shreddable than others. In order of shreddability here's my guitars from most shreddable to least:

    ESP
    fat Strat
    LP
  • yea i agree with dcunning, You can shred on pretty much any neck type. Low Action helps alot, but I just really like those thin ibanez necks, as opposed to like a thicker 7 string schecter neck. still shredable, just not as thin. Well im almost positive im gonna get the ibanez RG7321. Its like 375 new, but im gonna look around on ebay and musicgoround.com. Any other cheap suggestions guys?

Which means you are agreeing with me

Well, not really. If I was after a guitar primarily for shredding, I would be looking pretty closely at Ibanez, ESP, Dean, or Jackson. I would not be looking at Fender, Gibson, or PRS.

    ...just my own worthless opinion.

....yea, yea. I know Fender owns Jackson. 8)
  • No ones opinion is worthless.

wannagotopopeyes said \"yea I agree with dcunning\" - which is you ^^ - \"..you can pretty much shred on any neck type\" - which is what I was getting at before. Thats all.
