New Macbook and no X-edit problems
Well, I'm planning this 7 week mandated work trip to DC in August and September, and I can't be without music production and Internet access. So I decided to get a new laptop, all of my own, first time I ever did that. My criteria were it had to have wireless access and it had to be able to run X-edit and some sort of decent recording software. Of course, I came up against the VISTA vs. X-edit dichotomy, so that blew most cheap Windows laptops out of the running. I found one new one available that had XP Pro, but it was like $1400. So I decided to look at the Apples. Now, I am a longtime Mac user, but I have PCs, too. I like PCs, because I like Sonar. After searching, I ended up with a Macbook 2.0 ghz Intel dual core. I was able to get a 2GB memory upgrade for $110. The Macbook, refurbished from Apple was $850. After starting it up, I upgraded all the \"updates available\" software. Then I loaded Office and Reason. Last was X-edit. I have a GNX4 and an RP 350. Both pieces of Mac software loaded flawlessly and worked first time I tried to use them. I'll probably still get an external hard drive for recording and loading a bunch of music. Best Buy has a 320GB Seagate for $89. So, I'm fairly satisfied. I'll have a 2gz, 2GB machine with 380GB of on-line storage and I'll be into it for about $1050. Look for some new recordings from me in late August. I'll be using Garageband 3.0. Although I might check out Deck just for grins.
