So, do I sell my amp?
I'm kindof thinking about a GNX4, and am looking for some ideas.
I play guitar and sing in a classic rock band. I play an Epiphone Lucille through a Peavey Classic 50 410 amp, retubed with some very nice JJ's. We then mic the amp through our PA. This all works reasonably well.
But I am also putting together an acoustic duet thing...my wife on flute, me on guitar and vocals. I started thinking about a drum machine/back track player and came across the GNX4. The more I looked at it, I'm not sure its a very good fit for that (the whole MP3 looping thing, and lack of MIDI sync seems like its not what we want).
But then I started wondering if it would make sense to dump my amp and replace it with something like the GNX4. If nothing else, I'd really like to eliminate hauling it around from gig to gig. Total PITA. I also like the idea of getting some more versatility of tone.
But here's my big worry (and don't be offended, Digitech fans): I've only had one Digitech product in the past (Vocal 300) and I'd consider it a 'toy', not a 'tool'. Is the GNX4 really a serious, pro-grade tool? Part of me thinks it is a hobby box for guys to play with in their basements, but that its not really made for serious stage work.
Last...all I would really want is the amp modeling. All the percussion, looping, recording, etc is not necessary. What should I be looking at?
Any thoughts?

How much of all those functions is important to you is your own decision. You sound like you don't need the recorder so much, yet you go both ways on whether you'd need/want the drum machine.
If you want to use the unit for modeling AND drum track/backup tracks, I'd suggest going with the GNX4. Better drum section than the '3, plays MIDI files. And you can put MP3's on it to play for backup.
If you really truly don't want percussion, a recorder, or effects - and ONLY amp/cab modeling - you may wanna save a pile o' bux and go with the GNX 1 or 2. I don't know much about either - never had em - but lots of others here do, and you can read/search the posts, or DT's website.
As far as whether you could completely replace your amp with a GNX - I'd say probably yes, unless you're a serious tone snob and only a real amp will do. But don't forget that the GNX's model tons of different amps, are totally tweakable (MUCH more so than a real amp) and have full range tone response, whereas a git'r amp only responds up to 10-12K, where the git'r lives. You need more full range sound if you're going to have drum trax or backup music.
So..there's my $0.02...guys?
The problem with the gnx2 etc is that it does not have the output options like the gnx4.
You may say now that you have no need for the recording function, like i did when i bought it, but when I began to use it for solo practise, I've never looked back.
I'm sorry. I suffer GAS. (gear acquisition syndrome)
I have a GNX4, a couple amps, and a pair of Behringer B-2031A.
I don't need another amp.
That is what I tell myself over and over each day now.
I'm falling apart. I WANT YOUR AMP...
Yesterday was especially hard on me. I read this post 30 times
to make sure no one else bought your amp. :?
(Do Not sell to me...Do Not sell to me !!!)
PLEASE SELL ME YOUR AMP. (NO... PLEASE DON'T)
I assure you everyone here who has read your post, entertained the idea
of buying your amp, some more than others.
We are really a GAS support group, disguised as a Digitech message board. :?
