Customer support

Hi everyone, I reprint three mails from today. I found theb questions innocent enough, the tone friendly and the replies a little impolite. Firstly, am I wrong, and secondly, can anyone help me with the second question?
I quote;
hello,
I bought the 350 about two months ago, and I just haven't been able to
get to grips with it. I live in Korea, and the guys in the shop couldn't
understand what I was asking. So, at the risk of seeming stupid,(as if
that's never happened before)and bearing in mind that I'm over 50 years
old and not a tecchie...
1)How do I change from e.g. preset 1 to preset 50, back to 1 and then to
60, (for the solo) and then back to 1 whilst playing onstage?
I don't seem to be able to preselect a sound to instantly switch to, or
am I wrong?
2)One of the main reasons I bought the unit was for home recording. I
downloaded the drivers, but I can't hear anything through my computer
speakers. I know I'm missing the obvious, tell me what it is please.
Anyway, it sounds great, but that could just be me, and I am extremely
impressed that it survived a litre of beer being spilled into it! I've
had girlfriends who didn't.
Thanks in advance,
Ian

The reply;
You need to store the presets you use the most next to each other.

My reply;
Wow, after coming up with great sounds and incredibly sophisticated modeling that's the best you could do? \"You need to store the presets you use the most next to each other.\" I would suggest that for future products which are designed for stage use, the first two footswitches could be used to set up a patch, whilst the third could be used to execute. Guitarists are not by nature patient. I've used digitech and dod for, I think, 20 years, certainly since the eighties and this is my first disappointment
Also, seriously, could you be bothered to reply to both my questions, and at least sign off on the mail?

Customer support;
Look, store preset #60 to #1, store the other one to #2, that way they are one footswitch press away from each other.If you want multiple footswitches you should consider the GNX series.

Me, a little annoyed;
I'm sorry I seem to have offended you, I did understand what you meant in your first reply. Could you have someone answer my second question? And I am used to being addressed as 'Sir', Mr. Mcallister' or at least 'Dear customer'. I do not find the address 'Look' acceptable.
Thank you for your prompt reply.

I'm a really easy going person, but, am I in the wrong here?
Ian

  • You can't go to non-consecutive presets. If you're using the RP as your soundcard, then you should have the speakers plugged into the RP, not another soundcard.

    And yes, the customer support is not terribly helpful via e-mail. You should send separate e-mails for each inquiry to get a response.
  • And - I don't know if the 350 does this, but the GNX3 and GNX4 both have a \"bounce\" feature, where if you're in Bank mode, you can press the same button you selected your patch with, and you'll go back to the last one you used.
    Since the RP's have fewer footswitches, it may not have this capability.
    The good news is that it's very easy to store your presets next to each other; just take the one that's already made, and re-save it to the location you want, overwriting what's there. That's in the manual. Just be sure you have a few blank positions to relocate presets that you want to save, that're in positions you want to write to. And do backups!
    And - again, I don't know if the RP's will do this, altho the GNX's do - you can select a \"preset\" mode whereby you can turn various elements of the preset on & off - modulation, boost/stompbox, etc. RTM, it'll tell you if you can do that stuff. As can any fool here on the forum who has an RP, or the time to browse the DT or MF site for details. I'm too busy pining for a woman. :cry:
  • Thanks to both of you for your tips, I did manage to get sounds down today, but as you say, I need separate monitor speakers. Still, it's a breakthrough!
    Thanks abain,
    Ian
  • RP350 has two sets of stereo outputs. If you need, you can hook up an additional set of speakers to the XLR outputs.

    It's usually not practical to run sound into the computer, to another soundcard. Computer takes time to process the audio and this causes latency and other glitches, if you can even get it working.
  • Actually the information from customer service was correct
  • In fact, it was correct, and it did help me. I suppose i expected a friendlier conversation. Anyway, alls well etc...I have started to record,(with Audacity, and my sincere apologies to them for referring to their excellent software as 'kindergarten stuff' before even trying it) and am impressing the easily impressed with my quasi Vai noodlings. The 350 sounds are great for recording, my sincere thanks to you all for the help,
    Ian
