Also the editing software for the GNX-3 is different from the GNX-4.
Yes there are downloads available for the GNX-3.
Now the GNX-3 has two 1/4 inch output jacks and can operate in stereo or mono. I believe the GNX-4 has XLR outputs and 1/4 jacks. Each unit has an XLR microphone jack as well. I believe the general belief is the drum unit on the GNX-4 is superior to the GNX-3,
Soundwise either unit is very nice. I have decided that if there is a sound or tone you need, then given enough time you can create what you are looking for. That said there is a learning curve for these units. It is especially helpul to be somewhat computer literate when interfacing the GNX to a PC. The GNX-3 was originally set up for MIDI, the GNX-4 is set up for USB, some people are now adapting MIDI to USB and going that way for the GNX-3. But there are many many very helpful people in this forum and they are willing to help.
If you are not concerned about the memory cards you may want to consider the new RPX models or the GNX-3000.
I don't envy you trying to make this decision. Good luck.
That said, here's a tip on the GNX3/4 issue.
I started with the '3 and dug it, but quickly found out that the 128MB SmartCard thing sucked, and I wasn't smart enough to set myself up for MIDI connectivity. I wanted USB conn'y and CF card compatibility. So I forked out the dough for the '4, and despite it's higher cost, it's proved itself worth the extra bux.
Others will detail the differences in the units; in my mind, it comes down to this: if you want to get into modeling and effects and $ is a major issue, get the '3. If you want more features and usability and you can spend the extra $, DEFinitely get the '4.
And have all the hott women you know call me.
The websites that review them rant and rave, and say that the GNX is an awesome machine that gets taken to the next level by adding the Supermodels.
That said, there's a lot of guys on this forum who've beeched and screamed that they're worthless and pointless, that you can do just as well on your own.
So...I think the bottom line is this. If you're a furious knob-twiddler (or REALLY good with XEdit), or you only use a few sounds, or $ is a major factor, you can probably do without them.
If you just wanna lay out a few bux and get a bucketload of professionally-made tones, I think they'd be well worth it.
There ya go. Now when you run into Jennifer Aniston, tell her to call me back, eh???
This question has been asked alot so with some research here you can find some in depth answers...but if ya wanna skip that ...
Get the GNX 4 with the model packs =happy camper
It has newer bigger flash memery, better drums and usb /mp3 technlogy)
