BBE Sonic Stomp OR 362 Maximizer?

Has anybody used any of these two sound enhancers? If so, which one do you recommend for someone using the GNX3? I hear that nothing compares to the rack units when it comes to sound quality. But then again, I don't have any knowledge when it comes to this type of gear... Thanks in advance...

My setup is really basic: Randall 300 head, old peavey 4X12 cab, GNX3 & Jackson performance guitar.

  • 8) I have the BBE 482i (1u rackmount) I so love mine. Its definatley one of the best values out there IMHO.The 482i is 2 units in one so I run my mixer into it stereo. I wish I had the plugin for recording so I could get rid of all the chords though.
  • The reason I don't like Sonic Stomp is that it's designed for instrument-level signal. In other words, it should go at the end of all your stompboxes. But GNX puts out line-level signal, which doesn't work as well with the stomp. The stomp is also in mono, so really its function is to be in front of the amp (or back on the shelf where you found it). For me, as a GNX->PA user, the 882i - or the aforementioned 482i - works best.
  • I agree. I have only tried the stomp version and the VST plugin version. I absolutely could not live without the VST plugin, however I ended up returning the stomp. When I put it between the GNX3k and Atomic amp, it was overpowering and brittle/harsh. When I put it before the GNX3k, it didn't do very much until I really started cranking the process knob up, and again, in came the brittle/harsh. The best thing to do is get it from a place with a good return policy. If you love it like many people do, great, if you don't go on and try something else 8)
  • I actually have 2 rack mounted one, and i love having 'em. One for amplification, one for recording. Chix dig that (doesn't seem to be helping me though... )
I haven't used the little floor ones, but I'd agree with those guys that they're probably meant for instrument use; I'd get one that's versatile enough for all uses. You can nab 'em on ebay for a song. The one ODB has is pretty kewl too.
  • I got the 882i because I've read some complaints about noise from the other models. Whether they are or not, I can't confirm. There's an E-Bay store that sells these regularly for about the same price as the 482. It really makes the GNX sound better, especially the drums. You can use your two XLR outputs to the 882i.
