Anybody found a good EVH - sounding pickup that's not crazy expensive? I'm thinking Van Halen 1 and 2. I know there a lot more to his tone but i thnk this is a good place to start. I'll be putting it in a strat.

We've heard the folklore about Eddie's humbucker. According to tribal lore, it was a Gibson PAF out of an old ES-335, and it was supposedly dipped in some kind of special wax solution. What to believe!
One persons custom EDDIE PUP consist of an Alnico V humbucker with unbalanced coils . It reads about 7.3k on the VOM, hums a little, and he states it absolutely rocks. a tip: use good quality braided hookup wire, and make sure to use the 42 gauge magnet wire.
....oh yea if you spit or add special sauce to your wax it will be a \"special wax solution\" just like Eddies!

I got a Wolfgang and the zebra pups do a nice job but I also use a super Dimarzio on my Strat but I did pot it and it sounds just as good alot to do with Ed's sound is more in his amp and effects setup. He usually uses and old Marshall Plexi head which had a variax switch and ran the amp to the limit with everything on full and adjusted output with the variax switch..also had a small fan in the back because the thing ran so hot. You can get a pretty good facimile with the GNX4 with some tweaking it works great for me.
