Mesa Dual Rectifier

Can ANYBODY please tell me if the GNX4 can be sent through a Mesa Dual FX loop (not just the return)? Everytime I connect from the FX send to the guitar input and from the left, 1/4 output to the FX return, I get an awful squeal and reverberation sounds. I put the amp and cabinet modeling to \"direct\" and got the same thing.
Is the GNX4 made for this type of monster amp or should I look at seperate effects or another processor? Does the GNX4 in (just) the return utilize any of the Mesa's God given brutality or is it all just processor through an extremely expensive head?

Thanks for the help!!

  • Put it to you this way: if you love the tone of your Mesa, GNX4 pretty much ruins it. It is geared towards running into a power amp, with no other preamp in the chain.

There are workarounds, but none that I've found to be too convincing.
  • I'll probably put my foot in my mouth here (what else is new) because I don't have direct experience with this. I've heard that the FX loop on an amp can be serial, or parallel. I'm not sure which is which, but I've heard that specifically Mesa amps come out of the factory with the loop set to the one that doesn't play nice with modelers. My bro plays a GT-8 through a Mesa F-50, and I remember him saying it was awful until he corrected the loop setting. You probably want to confirm that with Mesa before you change anything!!!!!!
  • I think you should be thrilled with having such a stellar amp to jam into...but modeling effects aren't for you. A multi-effect that doesn't model, or single effects, are for you. Unless you wanna send me your Mesa to me for safekeeping while you play with your GNX 8)
  • I just went and picked up a BOSS Reverb pedal and ran JUST that through the FX loop and DAMN!!!!! It sounds amazing through all three channels on the Mesa. I am going to sell the GNX4 and buy individual effects.
Anyone out there use a ToneBone Classic? I am wondering how that would sound for more bluesy, Stevie Ray, ZZ Top stuff.
  • There are other MFXs out there that allow you to bypass the amp and just use there fx chain as a pedal. I have mine setup for no amp on a set of patches(when I run through a hotrod deluxe) Then the exact same setup direct with amps included for my studio montors for studio stuff. Then I have a third set of patches with FX , amps, and GTR models that all change together for practise. So whatever the setup I can $uk equaly at each :P  :lol: I would really hate going back to plugging in all those noisey stompboxes in a chain again.
  • Yeah to each is own & all BUT for me I love the 1 box for all deal suits all my needs perfect I'm soooo glad for my GNX4 8)
