GNX3k in my vista device manager.

vista.jpg

If you download the gnx3k suite installer and right click on it then select compadability mode and select run in windows xp service pack 2 mode. and clikc run as admin then it will launch the setup process just follow it like you would install on xp it will install drivers but it wont install xedit.

then you can still use your 3k in vista to record with any recording program just wont be able to run xedit.. its not official and its on-edge but hey its the best we can do till digitech stops slacking right?

  • I received an unofficial word that current target date for Vista compatibility issues will be around summer of this year. Right now they are working on software for some of the new units. I'm waiting for an official announcement regarding this.

As far as the other issues... I've never had latency problems. My DAW is nice, but it's by no means top-of-the-line. Latency occurs with all devices - not just GNX - and there are ways to work around most of these issues.
  • I have 2 harddrives in my computer 1 has vista and 1 has windows xp, but since i cant get xedit to work in vista only the gnx itself i have to shut down adn re-start in windows xp so i can load xedit.

I love vista and the backwards compadability is great i think sure somethings wont work but some will all my stuff works except for xedit, but i really dont mind since i bought it for recording and its doing exactly that.
  • If you need any help getting the 3k to work in vista like i did just lmk and ill try to help.
  • Just noticed this on DigiTech's site:

    \"Attn: Windows® Vista® owners

We hear your voices! DigiTech engineers have been hard at work on Windows® Vista® compatibility with our products. Please check our website regularly for more information and news on these future releases.

    Thanks for your patience! \"

That is cool... at least they have formally announced this. Yay!
  • For anyone interested I posted an article over in the General Discussion forum that is a link to a great in depth discussion of Vista as a platform for pro audio applications. It talks about some of the internal \"improvements\" Vista offers with pro audio in mind....

  • yeah the email support is pretty bad over there, just like the moderators here.
  • Okay, so we have a brief update.

The driver release has been delayed - I'm sure just about everyone realizes this by now. At this point it's running about two weeks behind the target date, due to some bugs that they can't find. So, while frustrating, the wait is worthwhile - nobody wants bunk drivers.

I will have some more concrete information by the end of next week, if the drivers don't come out by then.
  • I bought a brand new Business class HP laptop that came with XP Pro a couple months ago.... Because no one told me I couldn't do that. :? :?:

Personally, I have received very good response in all my tech support and questions, in all my many emails and phone calls to Digitech. I got on a first name basis, and traded personal phone numbers with my Techie.
They even sometimes talk about me at the water cooler! smile.giflengua9ep.gificon_redface.gif

Consequently, that was one big reason I joined this message board. I find the regulars here, are always willing to help in any question, and I have always found positive results. 8)
  • I'm sure all of you are as excited as I am that Digitech will be releasing is updated Vista drivers tomorrow. http://www.guitarworkstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6602 I can't wait to have my GNX4 running at full capacity.
  • Vista stuff is available on the resources page!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Be careful trying to install X-Edit 2.3, I had 1.3 already installed on my machine and I'm unable to uninstall it. When I try to install 2.3 it says that the machine is not adequate to run X-Edit 1.3 and the install shuts down.
  • Works great man!

Big thanks to Josh Kapp & Ryan Clifford for working so hard on this and actually taking time to answer user concerns - I know it was tough going and despite some of the somewhat rude comments made here, there are lots of us who appreciate your hard work.

  • I appreciate that they have finally gotten Vista Drivers out as well. I understand that My issue is something that was probably unforeseen by them and I'm not blaming them. I just want others to be aware that they need to make sure they can uninstall 1.3 first.
  • I just recently purchased the GNX3000. I installed X-Edit on XP SP2 and got it to work....so I thought. However, the machine kept getting the \"blue screen of death\" even when X-Edit wasn't active. I removed the X-Edit program on the XP desktop and it cleared things up. Tonight I installed the new X-Edit version on a different PC running Vista. When I start X-Edit, it immediately brings the \"blue screen of death\". has anyone experienced this or know a workaround?
  • GNX3000 , Vista Enterprise, X-edit 2.3 don't work.
After start application - Blue screen and restart pc. WHAT ?
  • - Delete ceusbaud.sys in Win/system32/drivers
    - delete all \"digitech\" in win. registry
    - again install Xedit 2.3

Are these the hoops of fire we have to jump thru to run X-edit on Vista?...I can see some PC novices screwing up a system royally going into the registry and sys 32 files!
  • You have to delete all X-Edit references in the registry. Sometimes you need to delete the reference other times the file that contains the reference in the registry. It takes a lot of time.
  • All this extra cleanup should only be necessary if you had an earlier version of XEdit installed. I had uninstalled XEdit 1.3 a long time ago once I found out it wasn't Vista compatible. I did not have to jump through any hoops to get XEdit 1.3 uninstalled either, I just ran the uninstaller and it worked fine.

A fresh install of XEdit 2.3 was perfectly smooth, and XEdit 2.3 worked the first time I plugged in my GNX4. No more separate USB driver install either, so it's actually easier than it was under XP.
  • Hi.
To delete all registry, you may run \"ccleaner\" or \"tuneup utilities\". These programs does the job.
    I hope this helps

  • The release notes indicate that XEdit 2.3 is compatible with GNX3000, and it works great with my GNX4. It sounds like other GNX3000 owners have gotten it to work.

It definitely sounds like you have to get rid of all parts of earlier XEdit versions before installing 2.3. Here's a good example...

  • Hi...

I´ve installed the new version 2.3 in my machine (Thanks Digitech to provide support for Windows Vista)... But I´m with problems... The installation process runs well but when I try to open the application I always receive the following error message:

    Device Discovery Failed

X-Edit was unable to locate a device. This may happen for any of the following reasons:

    - The device is not connected to your computuer. (YES, The device is connected I can read the CF Card)

    - X-Edit is already running (try opening presets from within the application) (NO, It´s not running yet)

    - Another application is already using the device´s MIDI ports (Does anyone can help me why can I check this ?)

    - The USB MIDI drivers have not been properly installed (Does anyone can help me why can I check this ?)

    Thanks in advance

Not sure this is much help, but X-Edit has always been a one port beast. If you hook your GNX to a different USB port than you did when the drivers installed, It would never see it correctly. I doubt this has changed in the new version.

Are you using the port that you did when you first hooked up your GNX after installing the new X-Edit? These computers now a days have 12 USB ports. Just make sure you use the same one each time you hook up your GNX.

  • Hi Baltasar,

I'm no expert, but it sounds like maybe you had a previous installation that wasn't Completely un-installed. ?

When i tried to un-install my original version it failed !

But in the Vista control panel it showed no sign of the program ???.. so i thought it must have worked ?

But then in the \"show all programs\" list ... there it was ??

So i went into program files and deleted it ... then re-booted and it STILL showed up in the program list !!

So i deleted it again and finally it was gone......

My point is ... i think you should do multiple thorough un-installs before you attempt to install the new one...

Sorry if i'm way off the mark.. but i do believe in remove and re-boot before you install the new version.... all the best..

    P.S.

We all here will get you up and running... i've found nothing but helpful people here!!

    dont stress.

    regards

Glad to hear it! Just make sure every time you plug your GNX into your computer you use the same port, or you'll have problems.
