  • Me like that! Ray Benson better watch out 8)
  • As far as the music - man I gotta say that's just so cool. It's like big band almost. Makes me want to dance (by that I mean snap my fingers on 2 & 4  ). Where did you get the drums? The rhythm parts are all top-notch.

As far as mixing, I'd put some of the same reverb on your rhythm tracks as you're using for the rhythm.
  • Thank you all so much for taking the time to listen and for the encouraging kind words. Much appreciated. I always liked that augmented 5th V-chord at the end of the turn around in those slow blues tunes (a la Stormy Monday) - it creates such nice ear-friendly tension before the next verse, but I didn't know any tunes that START on that chord so I figured why not try to come up with a \"lick\" that employs the notes on that chord, and this was the beginning of the creative process for this one. The other thing was that when I stumbled upon a +5-b9 (D7 +5 b9 in this tune), I just had to throw that in. Plus the 6 note on the I-chord (G6 in this tune) always tickled my musical fancy (a la swingy-shuffle tunes). So I worked my way forward from the beginning (using the D+ chord) and backward from the ending (D7 +5 b9), and with the G6 on the root, and the II-V turn around in the solo section but adding a twist to the II-chord(Am7sus4) so there's a chromatic run on the sus4 note from the II-chord to the 7-note on the D#7 (#V) and to the 7-note on the D9 V-chord on the turn arounds. And from there the tune pretty much wrote itself.

Iliace, the drums and bass are in the Motif-6 (GM-drums and bass) and were all done with MIDI (Sonar), pretty much one note at a time and the guitars were added with GNX3 and 4's. Regarding your comment about the reverb, did you mean that the (rhythm) guitars were kind of dry (reverb-wise) as compared to the rhythm (drums and bass) parts? If so, it's curious that you mention that... after I had exported to .MP3, I thought the same thing and was going to cut just a bit of reverb from the drums and add just a bit to the guitars, but I had sort of run out of energy. I do intend to re-do this at some point - my playing has improved in the past few years since I did this one, and of course the finished version will have a solo in the middle there.

I don't really know all too much about music theory, but when I hear something in a tune that pleases my ear, I go off and research what it was (music-theory-wise) that got my attention and gave my ears that nice little musical \"buzz\" on, and it becomes another little \"brick in the wall\" of my mental music library (for performing and for creating).

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment.

  • sounded great...loved that u left the solo out so that i could jam over the top. And the key of G is the same here in australia as it is over there...isnt that amazing :D:D:D ,
  • ...so I think I learned something new (theory-wise)... and I would appreciate it if somebody in the know could confirm or deny... I spoke of an Am7sus4, a variation of the ii chord in the Key of G, but would that really be an A11 chord?

    thanks in advance,
    Chuck
