MP3 Encoder

When I export audio from PTP in MP3 format it comes up with a MP3 encoder which asks for a unlock code or otherwise use the trial version, do you have to buy the unlock code separatly or is it included somewhere? If so where? If not where can I purchase it?

  • You can buy Cakewalk's encoder from their site.

Most people end up using this free one:
    http://cwenc.sourceforge.net/
  • does it work the same way as the cakewalk one? loads up when you export the file or do you have to load it separatly?
  • I load it separately; you can find info on that site regarding how you can configure it to work from within Cakewalk.

I use the free encoder from sourceforge.net and it works great. I never did install/use the Cakewalk trail version that came with the GNX4, so I cannot comment on any problems or not with having two encoders installed. Usually, you are better off just installing one encoder and not having to deal with any conflicting drivers/encoders.
  • When I was using PTP, as soon as the free trial ended on the encoder, I installed CWENC right over it. CWENC integrated with no problems and worked great every time. I actually liked it better than the one that came with PTP, because it allows you to add tag info.

Now days, I export everything in .wav format, and use dbPoweramp to convert to mp3 later if needed.
