  • I'm just glad that I'm off work for the holiday, although I got nabbed for Christmas. Hope you all enjoy some good turkey. 8)
  • I'll be dog-sitting. For a friend who went home for the holidays. :(
And Elizabeth isn't coming over to eat pecan pie and cinnamon-flavored whipped cream with me.
But I'm still thankful, for lots of things! Have a great day everyone!
  • Being an outsider, I've never really understood what thanksgiving is. Could someone explain it to me?
  • It's another excuse to have a day off from work. Now if we could somehow tie this holiday in with the giving of new gear, it would be perfect.
Actually, it's an old tradition going back to the pilgrims in America celebrating a day of thanks. Basically a day of appreciation. 8)
  • Hey Hooterman,

This link has a pretty good descritpion of what thanksgiving means to different countries that celebrate the holiday.

To me its one of my favourite holidays because it focuses on food. Something that i actually believe in. :D
  • I still think we should work some new gear into this holiday. 8)

I second that motion. Especially if Elizabeth Hurley delivers it in a tear-away Santa suit.
  • :D Happy freekin Turkey Day I'm haveing a Ton of family over... Im hosting this year and cooking the bird     so....wish me luck 8)
  • Hey Danny,

Is deep fryin' the turkey a common thing there in ABQ? I thought it was bizarre when I got here in SA, but then I had some and it was really awesome. Guys have these huge propane fired pots of oil, and the turkey is mounted on spit that lets you put it in the oil and then take it out when its cooked. Thing is, it cooks really fast and stays really moist, and, surprisingly, it doesn't have a greasy taste.

The fryers themselves are real dangerous. People tend to overfill them and then the oil comes out and lights up, and boom, huge fire. Experiences folks put the turkey in the deep fryer with no oil, and then add oil till it is about an inch below the top. Then they take the turkey out and heat up up the oil. when its ready, they have just the right amount of oil to cook the turkey.

At Casa de Flood, its just me, my wife and my son. We'll have some turkey breast and some veggies, and then hope to watch the Cowboys get their butts kicked, although they are very good this year. (We're Eagles fans - old habits die hard.)

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

Last year had some horrific deep fryer fires in garages. Besides the above mentioned and obvious for review - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey_fryer

Also the propane is heavier than air and requires special fire fighting precautions. I converted 2 natural gas gensets to propane for concerts and festivals. A 45KW and a 50KW at each end require less long expensive copper cables than a 100KW to power whatever. The conversion is done by simply removing a carburetor spring for the heavier, higher BTU fuel. Many light vehicles run on liquid LP with a longer tank stem. Use soapy water to check for any leaky connections. Be safe. http://www.coenergy.net/lp_msds.htm

Remember to give thanks in case it's time to go. :)

I've never had a problem deep frying a Turkey, but you need to do the oil level check thing AND make sure the bird is COMPLETLY defrosted first (frozen turkeys EXPLODE!!!)....It really is the best way to cook em, I take a large hypodermic syringe and inject seasonings directly into the meat (ala Emeril)....its very surreal shooting up your dinner
  • Our Thanksgiving holiday is in October. I'd still like to wish our American friends a happy Thanksgiving.. Deep Fried Turkey? Is there stuffing in it? Or do you use Stove Top Stuffing? I've never heard of such a thing. Sounds great though.
    Later.

  • The Australian christmas time food is traditionally turkey, but, as it is scorchingly hot (summer) in Christmas day (last year was 38 degrees celsius), seafood tends to be more popular eg prawns, oysters etc. Also the good old \"barby\" and \"snags\".
  • happy thanksgiving to you guys

enjoy your loved ones and treat each day as if it were your last!! :)
