ManglingTheClassics#7

Here's another mangling of a classic tune that I recorded to relieve the stress of a boss ('s wife) that hates me, not putting effort into writing my own music, and not having any seks. :?
Actually, this was an exercise in vocal performance and recording; surprisingly, the vocals were pretty easy - the hard part was getting the git'r playing even close to right! So...we've established that I have no talent for singing OR git'r playing. Hope you enjoy it anyway!!!
As always, feedback, opinions, suggestions are always encouraged. Unless you think it TOTally sucks; in that case, save it.

  • This is one of my favorite classic songs. Nice job!
  • Good Job Shredd 8) Hey how were you doing the harmoney part? IPS, Pitch Shift? Just wondering how you pulled that off. Maybee something I would try in the future :D

    God Bless!!
    Partch
  • Hey partch, I would guess from the way it sounds, that shredd did two seperate vocal trax, the second harmonizing with the first track recorded.

Was right shredd :?: was I :?: what do I win :?:  Joking

Was a Good job though :!:
  • 8) Truley one of the best singer songwriters EVER. That song makes tuning forks go off in my loins :!:  ok maybe that should have been an inner monolog.

and very brave of you to record. I enjoyed that.

Good ear 'shadow. You win your choice of me doing git'r solos on your next tune or a date with Rosie O'Donnell's pool boy.
If I were you, I'd give up music and hide in a cave.

You got that right. In a class by himself. But you might wanna work on that inner dialog thing, or perhaps put it into songs instead; you can weird people out at a party, but anything goes in the name of \"art\". Doesn't it??
Anyway, thanks for listening and I'm glad you liked it. I'm always looking for tunes to do that're in my vocal range, within my git'r playing reach, and don't require me to attempt to create a drum track on my stupid PTP.
And if I EVER get lei'd again, perhaps I'll be inspired to start writing stuff again. :?
  • Shredd said \"If I were you, I'd give up music and hide in a cave. \"

Ouch dude! I'm never gonna give it up, it's my only sanity in this insane world.

I really liked it....... too bad I am not a hot chick.
But then again, if I was a hot chick, I probabaly would not like it nor would I be even wasting my time talking to you!

    But seriously dude. Great job!!!

  • Man Elizabeth, your voice doesn't sound anything like your picture

Great job Shredd! I've always loved that tune as well!

Yeah, S&G isn't exactly music that gets hotties' attention...sigh... :(
But I'm glad you liked the tune. Recording stuff is hard for me 'cuz I rarely find music that's in my vocal range. But I'm trying to become a better singer, and better at recording vocals too. Thanks for listening-
And set me up with the hottest girl you know. :D

That's 'cuz the pic isn't of me...it's of Elizabeth Hurley, my favorite dream girl that isn't returning my phone calls. :? I put it up as my avatar 'cuz a picture of me would surely scare you all away...
But I'm glad you like the tune and the 'job' I did on it.
Now send Elizabeth over for some hot tubbin'.
  • Nice job on the song. I was expecting something a little more uptempo from someone called \"Shredd\" - maybe like early Metallica or Megadeth. So you really caught me off guard. But it was a nice sample of vocal recording and harmonizing with yourself. I don't have the voice to pull off something that demanding on vocals. So good for you, I thought you made it work.
  • Thanks 'taus - I'm really trying to get better at vocals, so this song was a challenge for me. Thanks for listening. My next \"mangling\" project is another rock song, with some k/b stuf involved. Stay tuned. As far as the tune selection...I have to look for songs that my low - and limited - vocal range can handle.
As far as headbanging bands like that - I like good hard rock, but I don't do enough meth to play that stuff. (Oh yeah, lack of ability has something to do with it too...). shredd is a nickname that comes from an activity other than my (pitiful) git'r playing...
  • Hi Shredd, Just heard 'sounds'. Cool harmonies man. Just like the original.. (you have a nice vocal tone in the falsetto and the main) must have taken some research and homework to split them and learn them and then record 'em.?? No-one mentioned the guitar tone ??!! It sounds delicious !! Please tell us what patch and what machine and which guitar ?? I'll send ya a P.M. with a tip for the vocals. Cheers mate, keep on recording bro.
P.S. the low synth was nice too.
  • Hey 'strat, thanks for listening. I think this was a better recording effort than I've been putting in lately and I'm pleased with the way the vocals turned out, which is something I'm trying to improve. It took a number of takes to get them right and have them sound good together, but I'm happing with the result.
    My git'r tone was:
Dean acoustic/electric with Fishman electronics, set mostly neutral with a bit of extra treble and brilliance. The GNX4 patch started out as the one called \"Laravee\" - I downloaded it, I think it's one of Mike's - and I diddled the chorus a bit (low rate, medium regen, high mod'n level), and toned down the high end, it was little brassy. Just a touch o' delay.
I'd love any vocal advice anyone wants to send me, I'm just getting into it after a long and distinguished career singing in the shower.
And Thanks for noticing the synth, that's my trusty ol' Roland Juno-60!!!
  • Ya know there Shredd, I think, and this is just MHO, but think you could pull off  Country music pretty good. I know it's probly not your 1st choice in music, but I think that is where your natural range is.

I definitely could; a lot of those guys have a deeper richer voice, like mine, than do the rock n roll types. I just don't care much for the genre; 'course, I'd change my tune if Shania Twain was my backup singer/lead groupie... :D
