\"Dream In Darkness\"
This is a song that I've had sitting around with lots and lots of tracks. Too many for me to want to deal with. DrGalacticFloss was the original singer using lyrics from one of my neighbors. The phrasing just never clicked, although Don did a great job with what he was given.
I asked Andrea if she wanted to give it a shot and this is what she came up with. We ditched the other lyrics.
The original song was called \"You Keep Me Up.\" It was a concept song, so the bridge was supposed to be a \"wake up in the middle of the night from a bad dream\" section. The bridge is still there, but with no vocals. I had some funk guitar, but I took it out to simplify. The end is supposed to be me up in the middle of the night playing my guitar since I can't sleep. That's why those two sections may seem disjointed, but I like the way it's arranged, so it's staying. This was my pre-hook period, so no frikkin' hook!
The distorted rhythm and synths were also removed. A couple of transitions were also removed. I hope this came out o.k.

Cool daddy'o...
Cool stuff
Thanks, I'll pass that along to her. 8)
I think the best thing to do is to strip down the tracks to the basics, and then rebuild up one track at a time. That's the only way to keep a multi-track monster from getting out of hand.

Thanks Kirk! Andrea is my step-daughter. I'm doing the backing vocals during the chorus. She's doing the good sounding ones.
No click track. This tune was actually written around the drums.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! A hook is a part that the listener can identify with. A lot of times, it's a chorus with a repeated lyric. As formula-like as it sounds, there really is some merit to having a repeated section that a listener can sing along with.
I learned this because I used to get slammed all the time in music reviews due to hard to identify hooks.
Thank you for sharing that with us.
Love the singa and the accoustic.... the lead break was right on the edge too!! Cooool stuff man..
Thanks! Jimmy Page is a comparison that I'll take any day.
This is a very pared down version. The original song had about thirty-two tracks. I trimmed it down and I think it sounds much cleaner and is easier to listen to.
That's funny about the comparisons with Andrea. She's really into Amy Lee and listens to Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) too. I think she'll really appreciate the comparison. 8)
Thanks for listening to it. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Mercy, I haven't seen you around in a while. Thanks for checking the tune out. I only sang during the chorus. Tool? That's cool.
