Which is the best music production software?

I assume a lot of people on here use various software programmes to record themselves, so can anyone give me any suggestions as to which is the best and which I should get?

I used to use Magix Music Maker 6 & then 11, but I figured the bigger programmes like Acid, Reason, Pro Tools would have a lot of advantages over such a cheap programme.

Go to www.cakewalk.com and http://www.steinberg.net/ along with http://www.digidesign.com. I believe these are the top 3 as far as popularity.

Adobe Audition is great too. Very versatile and powerful and works well with virtually all hardware and is easy to use.

I recommend AcidPro (and SoundForge to create loops) or SonarXL. I use both and swear by them.
