DS1 Sound Patch needed.. please help

This is the sound preview from DF-7 stompbox

http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/media/product/mp3/15/150838_DF7_3.MP3

I am looking for a similar sound in GNX4 but unable to do it. I looked over patches that are posted.. nothing looks similar to it. If anyone of you could model it and post a preview than that would be great. Please help.

Thanks

  • this community is pretty much dead now... :(

none of the ppl know how to get that sound?
  • maharzan,
Won't the DS1 in stompbox mode get you there?? I'm pretty sure there is one of those in the list? I pretty much always use Screamer or Sparkle Drive. Just a thought?

    God Bless!!

  • sounds toooo digital for me...

i have some of the patches from this site.. which doesn't use the stompbox DS1 but they sound better that the stompbox model.. it maybe just me..
  • The DS-1 model on the DF-7 uses an emulation of a Johnson 4x12 cabinet. Also, whenever someone says something sounds too digitial, my first thought is \"make sure the speaker comp button is on\" (Pressed in.) Try this: find a relatively clean patch you like. Then in X-edit, select and activate DS-1 as your distortion. Then go into the cabinet parameter, select a 4x12 cabinet, and then adjust the tuning of the cabinet. Turn the amp gain up, and the amp volume down.

To me, the sample that you linked to sound more like a Bogner Uberschall than a DS-1 through a clean amp. I don't know what the Johnson is. My DS-1 sounds nothing like that patch, so good luck!!
  • can you post your DS1 sound sample?

    Thanks.

I'll try what you have mentioned. My speaker compensation is ON. By digital I mean, it sounds too fuzzi.. and breaking.. its not a smooth distortion..
  • I'll see if I can put together a patch that sound close in the next couple of days. Giving you an acutal DS-1 sample wouldn't do much good, as it is very equipment sensitive. What is your guitar/amp rig that you use with the GNX4. Let me know so I can use something as close as possible.
  • its simple...

ibanez JEM Jr -> GNX4 -> Headphone or direct recording.

or u can just post a decent ROCK distortion that you use.

    Thanks.

Note: I went to the store to test out DS1, Metal zone and DF7.. didn't get the sound i was looking for.. DF7 had a good sound at no 5.. can't remember which one was that... i still have to try getting a good sound as i lack instruments.
  • Cool - I'll try to get something up in the next couple of days. I like the Metal Zone. That's a good pedal. I have and old school (early 70's) Big Muff Pi that I like, too. I'll give you what I'm using for my metal and other dist patches.
  • I just posted three patches which give a good distortion sound, and are patches where I am trying to get close to the Distortion Factory DS-1 sound. They are labeled Chasm 2, 3, and 4. 2 has the Tube screamer Dist, 3 has the DS, and 4 has the DS with some changes to the midrange settings.
  • thanks, i haven't checked it out as i am out of house now..

it would be nice if u could post the sample mp3s as well so i can figure out how different it is in mine from urs.

    thanks.
