OOF. This is the first thing I've done on Pro Tracks Plus, and it was pretty painful. I couldn't even figure out how to do drums, so there aren't any. It took about 20 times as long as recording live just to do a crappy job; a good recording woulda taken forever! I was so bunched up trying to get PTP to work that I paid very little attention to the playing; you'll catch a few rythm trips and stuff. Oh Well. I posted a \"cut\" version of it, cuz it was a pretty big file, but you get the idea...
I realize there's a mega-learning curve for something like PTP, but this was hellish. I'd rather lick rusty thumbtacks outta Cedric the Entertainer's buttt.
That said, I realized very quickly that PTP can do some pretty cool things...I'm sure once I've gotten the hang of it, I'll like it; but right now it's just painful. It makes my puter run badly, it doesn't listen to my GNX, footswitches don't work, yada. I spent dozens of times more time fiddling with the puter and tracks and so on than I did actually playing. :?

  • Shredd, you crack me up man. I recognized the tune, and I liked your cover of it.

Can't wait to get my GNX-3 outta lay-away, then I can fight those battles too.
  • Shredd man, there was nuttin mangled about that. Good job! I tried to put some drums to it, I could'nt match the tempo. You didn't happen to record to a click did ya?
As a side note, \"Old Gordy\" was playing here in town just the other night.

    Keep Rock'in P.G. :)
  • Shredd,
You are tooooo hard on yourself!! I think you did I fine job!! I recognized this one as well!! As far as Pro Tracks goes stay with it bud it's worth learning how to use it & figure all the subtlties out!! As far as getting your hands free to work in Pro Tracks. It can be done!! I don't use the hands free i just use the mouse it has a count off & all has not been a big deal to me. Anyhow the Gnx4 has to say in the one menu can't remember actactly which one Hands Free USB instead of hands free CF. I leave it hands free CF so I can use the GNX as a looper. Also there is settings in Pro Tracks Hands Free in one of the menu's you have to select it there as well but it can work. Just keep at it you'll figure it out. All yeah the biggest thing make sure your GNX4 is in Recorder mode. Hope you figure it out man!!

    God Bless Shredd!!

  • Thanks guys - as usual, you're way too generous...like I always say - if I walked into a live set and heard someone singing like that, I'd book without so much as a beer. But you're all very generous in recognizing me as an amateur, and I know my singing will get better...
\"Just keep doing it\"...(Fast Times @ Ridgemnont High)
Anyway...I tried using a click track or a drum track on my GNX, so I could keep steady...with slow songs, it's REALly easy to speed up without realizing it. I don't think my rythm was steady thorughout this tune...hence the dragging vocals here n there, etc. But when I tried, either standard time or double time, it messed up that strumity-strum rythm this song has. So I figured on adding it later, but I couldn't get PTP to do it. So I didn't bother.
Kewl that you had Gordie in town...I read somewhere that he wrote this tune to fill up an album as a tribute to the guys that went down with the ship. He had no idea it would become his biggest hit and he said in the late 90's that he felt the song was dogging him and his career...
Anyway...this was my first taste of PTP, and rough as it was, I hope to get better at it. Thanks for the tips! And if I keep at it, I know my singing will improve too. Unless Gwen Stefani will call me back and take up my collaboration offer, and sleep with me too....
