Yet another bit o' cover material borne of frustration from my inability to use my ProTracksPlus or get lei'd. Another one I threw together in about an hour, after trying for almost THREE hours to accomplish anything with my PTP. Obviously I'm inexperienced with it, but I feel retarded.

  • Dude that took large ones to try to do that. I have seen Seal 2 times and they always rocked. I never expected that from here. Good for you.
    Great post.

Thanks man! I useta work with this kewl chick who saw a Seal show and said it's the best concert she ever saw.
I like his stuff - good writing, always great studio musicians and production, and of course a great set o' pipes. This tune is one I really like...I have a CD single with about 9 versions of it, and I really love the acoustic/unplugged one. So I sorta took a crack at that, put in some bass and kb. But I'm not so poroud of the singing...see my other post(http://www.guitarworkstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=28749&sid=693744302d22e7c0f6cf81177c63b495#28749)
  • Hey shredd, thatsastrat is right, it takes some real big one to pull of a Seal tune. So we won't go there :P .
When you are recording your vocals, do you do the track dry or with FX?

    Keep Rock'in P.G.

Thx PG and all you guys - I didn't think much about it being a tough tune to cover...I just like it and (I thought) I could sing it, range wise, anyway.

When I record vocals, I record with FX, 'cuz I haven't gotten myself up to speed to use PTP, and I'm to stupid/impatient/clueless (choose one) to try the re-amping thing.
It's onlly when I'm actually TRYING to make a good recording (http://www.digitech.com/soundcomm/guitar_view_music.asp?productid=199&music_id=2407, http://www.digitech.com/soundcomm/guitar_view_music.asp?productid=199&music_id=2353) that I utilize these things; otherwise, I just record for the hell of it. What the hell, it's not like I'm impressing girls or anything!! :P
  • Cool man I liked it, as you said Seal has an outstanding voice but I think you did a good job.

As I said before I like all your posts and you do pick some good songs to cover.

I think you're are perfect for those small bar/restaurant type venues.

    You're a 1 man band
  • I have no idea how to use PTP,since I use sonar. I find it very easy to use. With Sonar, I record my vocals with minimal FX, mainly just a bit of reverb and a bit of EQ. After I've rcorded the track,I go back, \"high light\" the trak and play around with different FX till I find something I can live with.

I don't like recording full FX on for 1) it's permanent and un-correctable 2) I've found that recording with full on FX,sometimes my pronunciation of words were fighting with the FX, causing uneven breath control 3)My voice is gonna suffer from having to do take after take. 5 takes and my voice is done for a couple of hrs.<--(this the reason I don't front a band  )

Keep practicing as BLOOZ has said, and in time it will happen. Everyone has the instrument. Just keep at it. 8)
  • Shredd,
I agree the acoustic part of this song was cool!! Vocals not bad, I would definetly don't give up on singing cause your voice, technique everything improves the more you do it!! Hey man as far as forgiving you for recording this one like you posted in GD? Nothing to forgive bro thats what this is all about!! you post & keep trying new things. That's awsome you don't need forgiveness for that. Keep at it Sredd!!

    God Bless you!!
