Dixie (By Tal)
Well...
Everything I've done to this point has been an original composition with multiple tracks. I thought it was high time I did a \"COVER\". And since I decided to do a \"COVER\" why not go ahead and do one on my new Gibson L5CES as a SOLO guitar piece..
Recording was done entirely with one guitar recorded in Stereo. No Mix. Just imported the solo guitar track and encoded it to .mp3. Didn't want to distort the tone of the L5 with effects and mixing.
What a sweet guitar 8) .
I just hope I'm worthy to play it...
Anyway...
Here's my cover of \"Dixie\" done as a guitar solo..

Hope you guys enjoy it...

Very very nice and sweet tone.
You're just in a different league to most of us
Very cool
We hadn't heard from you in awhile, at least since you recieved the L-5. I figured you locked yourself up with the geetar and just kind of forgot time was passing by. I imagine that would be easy to do when you have a jewel like that in your hand and all those tal-notes in your head just begging to get out.
Good to hear from you again!
God Bless you Tall!!
Partch
just sweet work dude
you just have an extra gear or something tal
Great playing, and great piece. I am not familiar with the piece, but I am sure you did it justice.
You guitar should be happy it has someone like you that can play the heck out of it.

mrgreen (green with envy)
This is the first thing I've posted doing solo guitar work and I really appreciate your kind comments
As for you not familiar with the tune \"Dixie\", it was originally written in 1815 and obtained the height of it's popularity during the American Civil War, and was popular with both sides of the conflict. It became more or less the national anthem of the southern states during the conflict, and has remained a popular song in the south to this day. I figured I would be pretty safe, as far as copyright, doing a cover of a tune written in 1815.
And yes Partch and others...The tone of the Gibson L5CES is just magnificent. Best guitar I have ever owned. Slash hit it on the the head about the tone...\"SWEET\".. 8) 8) 8)
You guys really ought to hear one live. As cool as they sound on a recording, they are absoulutely unbelivable live. When I'm playing around the house, my wife just stops and says, \"My God..What a fabulous guitar\". I have to agree with her. 8) ..
AC...Glad you dug it and your family likes it as well. I'll be looking for some mixing tips from you on the next one. (Hint:...Today is John Coltranes Birthday..Be Bop with Sax synth = lots of tracks and lots of mixing tips and critiques from you hopefully)
Mike B..Always a pleasure to hear from you, and I'll bet you money you can find those chords. Great hearing from you!!!
Glad you dug it is as well CB... 8)
Thanks BG..Born in Mississippi and raised in the south, I've heard \"Dixie\" a lot. Hope I didn't get too carried away with it.
Yeah Wog...Decided to play a straight chordal solo until about the 1:40 mark and turn the tune on it's ear a little. I may do a few of this old folk tunes in the same style. Maybe \"Shenendoah\" at a future date.
Bababooey...So happy you dug it...Dig your playing as well. This one was kind of wild getting the chords to work together, and the walking bass line alternating with the chords and the lead licks from time to time. Actually, the part I really studied on how to put together was the first 1:40. I wanted to establish the piece by playing it straight, but play the tune as a chord solo. Once I got that worked out, and got to the jam, it was all fun..

Glad you guys dug it...
Well.....Back on the planes tommorow for another week but I'll check back with you guys on Friday. 8) ..

Wow
I hope to meet a girl someday who will say that about my guitars.
An amazing-guitar-god-freek that is :!:
that was so sly...AND WHAT A CLASSIC PIECE OF WOOD YOU JUST BOUGHT. Lucky dog
Inspiring as always. Peace out.
sorry my post have been a bit late but my homePC is Horked right now.
Appreciate your comments. 8)
Solo guitar is such a cool challenge. Establish the tune, then improvise and keep it going with references back to the tune. The best, of the bunch at this, are Chet, Joe Pass, and many other greats. I'm not EVEN in their league, but I'm learning..
Thanks guys..
