J-Station User needs Help !
Hello,
I'm an old Jstation user (since 2002). I use it with active/passive BASSES and I really love 3-4 AMPS Mod : SVT, RECT, and especially the JCRUNCH which is incredible with a bass instrument. I use a FCB1010 pedalboard for live rig (effects and patchs controls).
I really love it but I'd like to have a Stompbox workstation like GNX3/4/3000 to control GAIN (drive) with a footpedal during Live session and the wrapper to use both SVT and JCRUNCH Amp.
I've seen that GNX workstations have SVT and JCRUNCH AMPs Mods but I don't know about the quality if I compare with the JStation ? Is it the same sound ?
I play on a YORKVILLE 2x10 Bass Amp Combo with a Drive Channel but I can't recreate the Jstation JCRUNCH sound.
So, do I have to :
* Keep My Jstation, the GNXs JCRUNCH Amp is really different
* switch quickly with a GNX3/4 cause the JCRUNCH is the ~ same
Can you help me ?
Many thanks.
Christophe

The GNX4 is probably the better bet to get as close to the jstation tones. I have some customs tailored off J station tones. Are you looking more for the Jstation modeling, and additional stompbox features? If so, the GNX3 will also get you in that ballpark if you don't need all the extras.
My other suggestion is to try the Digitech Distortion factory stomp pedal with the rest of the rig and see if that gets you more of what you want without adding the additional coloring.. If you use the J, with a GNX you're going to have modeling going into a model.. sound will be very colored.

If you go with either GNX, email me after you get it and I have some J type preset models I can send you. The fact GNX models are close to the J, but the coloring of the cabs is a bit different.
The difference mainly being in the selective filtering they used in the master preamps. Plus the processed guitar signal had additional filtering to keep an even tone, and reduce harshness. part of the dimensional sounds of the J, was it was mixed from the guitar input both dry and wet.. the variance could account for changes in how hard, or soft you drove the modeling gain. If you drove it less, the mix of wet/dry was low.. if you drove harder the mix of wet/ dry was higher... Kind of like what they do in real amps by adding additional gain stages or phase invertors. Really a cool method that made Line 6 look at newer ideas..
