easy(ish) dream theater songs to play

ok i cant shred like john and i have very little time to play. but i want to learn some DT stuff that is on the easier side, but there is enough there to keep a guy interested (woithout having to spend hours and hours memorizing it). im taking a look at about to crash which looks interesting.

do you guys have some suggestions for some fun to play and not overly crazy DT tunes to learn?

thanks

also - has anyone seen a backing track to about to crash?

  • Do you like acoustic stuff? Silent Man would be a good one... Hollow Years and other ballad-like tunes from FII... many rhythm parts of aCoS are relatively easy and good practice for timing in general and odd time signatures in particular.

If you think about it, many of the songs are not all that difficult. I saw a video of Tony Burnett showing a student of his playing Overture 1928... the guy wasn't all that great, and messed up a bunch of the scale patterns... but it was a good demonstration that even players who are not all that advanced can learn complex tunes - with good practice habits.
  • I'd recommend Silent Man as well.
  • \"Pull me Under\" is easy(ish) there's some tricky parts but it has to be easiest electric one I can think of off hand.
  • Here are some easy ones my man

Through Her Eyes ( Which is fun to improvise on )
    The Spirit Carries On
    The Root of all Evil
And These Walls if you have a 7 String

    Have Fun :D
