Satch patch test.

Last Sunday I had a listen to Firejack018’s excellent Satriani covers, which took me on a journey down old memory lane. I dragged out the dusty old box from the cupboard, where my Satch albums had been hibernating for the past 8 or so years. After listening to a few tracks, I decided to try and make a couple Satch patches for the GNX.
After playing around with my new Satch patches I decided to lay down a quick Satch jam.

This was mostly done for fun and to see how the patches turned out. It sounds very 90’s because, well, I haven’t actually purchased any Satch albums for a long time:)

If anyone would like the patches leave it in your comments and I’ll upload them.

So there you have it. I would like to thank Firejack018 for the inspiration and of course the big guy himself, Joe. And a HUGE thanks to iliace for his help in getting this file on the net.

Have a listen and let me know what you think;)

Gear:
Ibanez RG540 loaded with Damarzio’s
Hoontech DSP24 Value Sound Card. I went with the line out option instead of USB.
GNX3000
Sennheiser HD515’s
And of course my computer

P.S. Firejack018, Don’t you even dare start on the Steve Vai covers lol.

  • sans2012,
Sounded good!! Nice playing there!! Hey what for trem does your RG have?? My RG470DX has LO Pro and did not stay in tune very well. I just never used the trem and it never went out of tune. Very stable guitar. I love the Edge Pro on my JS1000BP if the strings are stretched and played a little, not that I'm huge tremelo user but this thing will just not go out of tune!! Much better in my opinion!! Just wondering??

    God Bless!!!

  • Hi Partch,

My RG has the older style locking trem. I'm not sure what it is called but I think its pretty much the same as the Lo Po minus the Lo:)

I actually have more problems with tuning after locking the nut. But when its all locked up and in tune, I can give the whammy a real thrashing and it tends to stay in tune.

    Cheers

    Michael.
  • Nice tone, and great pickn' dude.. 8)

    See Ya,

  • Hey there sans.

LOL at your intro. Thanks for the mention. Nice to be an inspiration.

    Man, that was awesome.
Your tone was electricity and your playing otherwordly.
Is this a satch song? I haven't heard satch's material beyond Crystal Planet.
Also, what Dimarzios are you running?
That tone sure was something else. Great work!

  • @Tal, thanks for having a listen mate:)

    @firejack018,
    Is this a satch song?
are you pulling my leg bro lol. I just put it together to show of the patches and well, I haven’t actually recorded a thing for about two years. Matter of fact I haven’t even picked up my guitar for nearly two years. I picked it up a couple weeks back and a week later I got the GNX and now I'm back in guitar heaven. Ha ha, that sounds so cheesy lol.

    Appreciate the kind words mate:)

Anyways, Paf pro in the neck and a double whammy in the bridge position. These things are as old as the hills, probably older.

The tone comes from the wah effect mainly. Whenever I play Satch styled stuff I tend to leave the wah pedal on the whole time. It gives your guit great sustain and that trade mark Satch tone; sort of.

I’ll work on those patches a bit more then post them up.

    Cheers again guys!

    Michael.
