New RP series from Digitech

These pedals look cool. All feature USB connectivity. I may need one of these to complement my GNX3000. I love Summer Namm!!!

they are on front page at top

  • The spec's read like a down sized gnx3000.. a lot of the same models...no drums. I guess digitech have a big box of programed chips....
  • I was looking at that. The new AudioDNA chips might be worth looking at.
  • WOW, when are they available and does anyone know the price yet?
  • hmmmmm - i just saw the new Line 6 KB37 recording interface wich rocks - has guitar and mic inputs for bass/axe and vocals and all the POD models will be available - but also has a built in MIDI controller keyboard and traction controls, like a tonport and MIDI kleyboard fused together - and i thought wow! thats what ive been looking for my whole life!!

then i saw the new Audio DNA2 pedals and forgot about line 6 = i loved the RP100 and RPX400 - if these new chips are as good as they say they may well blow the GNX3000 out of the water!! notice that they have also started modelling effects stompboxes such as the MXR phaser!! (like the line 6 effects - not just in house effects, as good as they are) - also notice that the RP350 has more stompbox and effects models than the GNX3000 (eg two version of the tube screamer).

the only drawback i see is the lack sof stombox functionality and warp - just the normal up down amp channel switching - but id expect a GNX5 to come out with the new chip soon - i cant wait to hear demos and reviews these things look incredible !!

(also dig the 'hard' speaker comp switch on the back)
  • This seems like a natural evolution for the RP series. I'm sure we'll get the same with GNX series eventually. But I'm very intrigued with the amount of new stomp and other products they have modelled.
  • I can't wait unti there's a firmware upgrade for the GNX4 that'll make it praise me while I play and talk dirty to me at night. :!:
  •:lol::lol: Shredd,ROFLMAO :!: Would that be the groupie patch?
  • i think it would be a multiple groupie patch :P

I don't think you'll see a firmware update that will convert your GNX4 to add a ton of bell s and wistles (whether groupie related or not). The hardware may be stretched anyway which is maybe why they went to the AudioDNA2? Or it could be the AudioDNA chip is simply \"unlocked\" and re-labeled. Who knows....They are going to want to see you upgrade to the latest and greatest hardware because that keeps the ball rolling. I don't disagree with it either.. How else do you fund R&D and progress unless with $....
  • I treat Effects like distortions as nothing else but different types of preamplifiers/Amplifiers.

Other effects are realised as firmware.

It is therefore conceivable that downloadable software or firmware could add more bells and whistles to the GNX4 and GNX3000 as the hardware is surely sufficient.

It is conceivable that new effects could be downloaded or warped in the same way as Amps and Cabinets are currently.

But that would not feed the R&D team back at DT

Unless new effects for old boxes were chargeable a la Line6. Now that may be an idea !! Cash for software downloaded from DT web site is pure moolah and maybe USD 50-75 of software purchase equals USD 200-300 of hardware sale as far as profit is concerned.

As it is, DT have given us a lot by allowing user defined Amps and Cabinets via Warp. We should be thankful for what we have !!!
  • i agree groovy - but i bought the line 6 model packs and iwould definately buy a Digitech equivalent.

I know they wont be able to supply new effects or stompboxes to GNX users (pit - id like the dynacompand MXR stuff in the new RP units) but they could ship new amp models based on their component based modelling.

I agree with what you say here. It was discussed some time ago in another post. But I think they see themselves as a \"Hardware\" company. Who knows....For the record, if they had an \"FX Pack\" that added new modulation stompboxes, etc, I'd buy it....
  • FX Pack would be sweet, for pre-amp modulations etc.
  • What i would love is a rackmount gnx4 with a built-in power amp. You have it all in one them , just grab some speakers and you have the ultimate modelling rig.

Dt should look into a faster processor for the pedals. If you had a rackmount version (as above) you could have enough room to whack in a computer processor (3 Ghz!) which would make it a more potent audio processing device.

    One Comp replaces another

    One Stomp Box replaces another

So even if you have the chance to load new firmware with new effects into a GNX, the number of effects in the chain will remain the same.

Hence the hardware processing power is not streched.

There is enough memory available as well as each effect normally needs just a 20-50K of memory.

It is just a commercial decision of DT to allow/not allow downloadable new effects.

Then they would welcome with open arms all third party software developers that increased the capabilities of their hardware. But this is not happening.

Yes, It too would readily buy an expansion firmware that added more original effects to the GNXs that my bands use. And for new purchases, the ability to expand the unit later on would be a very big plus point in my books.

Wouldnt I love to have the Clapton and Hendrix boxes programmed into my GNX. I could pay half the price of the artist hardware and DT would still make the same amount of profit !!
  • Yeah yeah yeah...Hardware can probably take it....Commercially they choose not to or haven't figured out the best commercial model for them as a company yet... Bottom line, we don't have \"FX packs\"...

The interface (Parameter matrix on the unit) looks like it would be able to handle multiple new effects with the current parameter listings..It would be good to hear what Digitech has to say about these kinds of things, I frankly become puzzled with their commercial choices sometimes...

The RP350 does have drums, in fact it has 6o patterns; more than the GNX4!
  • I stand corrected...only looked at the comparison sheet.
