  • The only thing I DIDN'T like about it is the idea that some asian teenage chick could shred my a$$ in a jam-off....
  • Haha, don't you hate girls like that?

Bunch of them out there, too... from Jennifer Batten to Kaki King.
  • And Nancy Wilson, and Karla Bonoff, and and and... :x
  • Yeh, but can she play standing up??? Just kidding. That was way cool.
  • JENNIFER BATTEN USES A GNX4!!!
just thought you'd like to know

and I despise note-for-note covers. I dont care who plays them, i hate them.

I think you'll find many Asian musicians practise very hard and hence often make virtuosos out of themselves. But i still believe writing a good song is way more challaging than playing someone else's. The emotion has already been notated when you play a cover; the hard work has been done. The hard part (which is what makes SRV great) is the writing of a song that encapsules the mood, no matter what genre.
  • yeah hootman you have a point BUT...it's pretty hard to take some songs and TRY to copy em. I mean try to capture that emotion---it's hard
and doing covers is a must for many bands/guitarst. I agree with you that it's better to write your own but it's also worth your time to get a handle on the masters --don't you think?
  • JENNIFER BATTEN USES A GNX4!!!
    And a GNX3000...
  • Yeah, but will Hillary Swank come over and clean my pool naked???
  • Yeah I agree about the note for note covers, but I have to hand it to the girl for taking the time to learn the entire piece.

Plus she's a girl and I imagine it's not easy being a blues/rock lead guitarist in a world where rock music is dominated by men. :)
  • Yes my band has done many covers, I have learned many covers and some of them are hard, but generally, i disagree with the concept that this girl has become, well not really, but \"famous\" just because she is not the stereotypical bluesy guitarist and she has done a very good job at playing this song - but remember, we dont know how many hours of practise went into that - practise makes perfect! Better players require less practise.

Music and maths are the only two subjects that there can be child prodgedies in; the only two areas that children can really perform at the level of an adult.

People still seem to have a funny attitude to women playing guitar, same with young people - i mean if one of you guys filmed yourself playing that, no one would be surprised, but say if wickerman here did it (being 13) or even me (16) people might say \"oooh look at them they are young AND skilled!\". You must remember that children and youth have a higher capacity for learning, because thats nature. I wish people would dispel this attitude and judge purely on the quality of playing.

Notice how much you learn as you keep playing a musical instrument can be represented by a graph the increases at a decreasing rate (for mathematical people like myself a log to the base e curve), so you learn most stuff in the first 5 years. My point being that children can learn guitar when they are, say 10, and with adequete tutoring and practise, can play at a level similar to an adult.

    My biggest post for awhile!
  • Yeah, right, but you still haven't Fed-Ex'd Elle McPherson to me. I don't even care if she knows what a guitar IS.

    What about Gymnastics?

Sorry Dude, but THATS human nature. Learn to accept it (its just like seeing a Penguin riding a bicycle...it just doesnt happen all that often)
Same as seeing a really old person dance real well, its not that common place so it draws interest.
This girl can play really well, reminds me of the 10 year old japanese boy's videos playing surf guitar on YouTube...the technique is all there---but are they \"creating\"...no...will they ever...maybe (at least the muscles will be in place)...and why is a young kid playing a Chopin piece note for note on a violin any better than learning Little Wing...(perception!)
