Satch's The Extremist
Hey there.
http://www.digitech.com/soundcomm/guitar_view_music.asp?productid=199&music_id=2359
Just finished The Extremist. This piece gave me many sleepless nights. Very challenging. Not completely happy with it but my ear has had enough.
Can anybody play the Harmonica? If you can play the harp parts, send them to me and I'll try to include them in the mix.

and another outstanding recording to boot
nicely done --a tough song for sure and I think you nailed it
what can I say gavin---fine work
p
Mate, I just listened to this after giving my ear a break and geez, what a mess! Did you notice any mud? Inconsistencies in drum hits (especially the toms)? Levels set too loud on rhythm guitars? I gotta fix this mix. Thanks for your kind words, though. Will let you know when it's fixed.

How is the Evo2 compared to the EVO, I have yet to try the 2 and I have the EVO set now, not liken the way they record for me
dude you gotta relax
OK MAYBE BRING DOWN THE RYTHUM GUITARS A TAD
mess with it next week or somethig cause I think you did a great job and you can be proud of this
NO BULL
AND NO i DIDN'T NOTICE ANY MUDD
i CAN ONLY LISTEN THRU MY PUTER SO i CAN'T REALLY SAY
P
Thanks mate. The Evo 2 seems to respond well to pick attack and is fairly versatile when recording. It cleans up well. Not too trebly. I haven't used Evos before so I can't really comment on those, but I can say that I really like the Evo 2. Can't wait to try it on some Vai songs.
Heya Paul.
LOL. Mate, I couldn't help myself. I remixed the levels and fixed the drums. The link at the top of the page now goes to the remixed version.
Much happier now. It might not have been obvious in the MP3, but on audio cd, it was really terrible. Thanks yet again for your advice and feedback.

Once again great playing!! You truly get that Satch vibe going in his stuff that you do!! How long have you been playing?? You realy play well, Record & Mix well!! you must have alot of experience?? Sounds great!!!
How do you pick Satches stuff up?? All by ear from Recordings?? Do you read music and just get the lead sheets?? I can pick some stuff up by ear but some of Joes stuff no way at least not at my current level. I need to work more on my ear from recordings!! It's just hard to find the time with working on the Worship order each week. Anyhow I was just wondering?? I think you do a very good job with the Satch stuff!!
God Bless!!!
Partch
VERY NICE

See Ya,

Partch, thanks for your comments. As always, very inspiring.
The songs posted at this site are my first experiences with mixing and recording.
Been playing on and off for bout 10 years. Taught myself guitar using the Surfing With The Alien songbook (tablature) in my teen years.
I think it helps to have a good ear for learning satch's music. I never slow his licks down when figuring them out. I just work through the tablature using my ear until the penny drops, or else I just wing it.
The good news is that your ear can be developed. So stick with it.
Thanks paul and tal for your positive comments.
You guys are great.

Do you know Flying In A Blue Dream?
Thanks mate. Used to know parts of Blue Dream, was thinking of tackling that piece soon. I have to learn the whole song though. Any tips?

great work , enjoyed it a lot mate
Thanks mate for your awesome comments. I have the supermodels discs to thank for providing such excellent tones to work with. Very tweakable too. The solos weren't quite note for note but I was happy with the overall result. Glad you liked it.
Hey there atkins.
I know what you mean. I stopped playing for roughly 4 years myself. Took me a little while to get the touch back. I'm sure you'll get back there in no time. Make sure you post your songs. And thanks for your great comments. Really appreciate it.
Thanks guys,

Soz took so long to reply. Been busy recording Flying In A Blue Dream.
Thanks tim for your nice comments. Makes me want to record some more music (though i have to recover from the latest recording before that happens). Still lots of room for improvement.
Heya vansatch. Thanks also for your nice comments. In answer to your query, i have a few of satch's tab books from my teenage years. Bit pricey, but they're worth it. You can get them from most guitar stores.

Thanks again guys. Will try to come up with some original tunes. But don't expect too much as my music theory is not that good.
Might take a while too. (do-re-mi-... umm... err... help!)

Thanks yet again fellas for your inspirational comments. Really appreciate it. Sorry its taking so long to reply guys. Been busy with work and also writing original music. Got some ideas for maybe 3 tunes floating around in my head. Gonna take a while to get everything arranged and recorded though.
