In The End

Hello all and Happy fourth.

Watching TV one day I got to thinking that Americans are about as deep as a mud puddle. It seems that America cares more about Paris Hilton's many, many boyfriends and Angelie Jolie/Brad Pitt's baby than they do about the grave situation around the world (Iraq, Iran, N. Korea, Rwanda, etc.). That was kind of my inspiration (I indeed love this country though).

Interested in what you think about the mix etc. Do the vocals sound flat in spots (I am not happy w/ them)?

Here's what was used:
Drums - TD20/Roland VPro (me)
Vocals - VX400 (me)
Rhythm Guitar - GNX4 + Les Paul (me)
Guitar Solos - GNX4 + 1977 Les Paul (16 year old neighbor).
Bass - A cheap bass (my brother).
Mastered w/ Sony Sound Forge

Please let me know what you think.

  • Sounded cool man, couldn't really here the vocals to clear though. 8)

p.s you forgot Afganistan, the British Paras and Royal Marines are taking a bit of stick from the Taliban. :( :x
  • Agreed - excellent tune. Great mood, but since the vocals are so muddy and back in the mix, you don't get the lyrics and thus the meaning of the song. For my money, I'd do a remix and don't change anything but the vocals.
BTW, I'm a history buff. Americans have always been willfully ignorant of the sacrifices made on their behalf, let alone the suffering of others around the world. It would do us all some good to have some perspective on the big picture. Then we'd care a lot less about who's laying pipe at Casa Hilton.
  • Hey Mercy,
I like the way you structured that tune. Really good flow. I agree with the above also - don't be shy, bring them there vocals up  . I should talk though... bring a mic within 10 feet of me, and my blood pressure drops to 90/40  .

On the subject of the tune, any time I see a soldier in uniform, I walk up and thank him/her for serving. The sacrifices they make are unimagineble, and the compensation they recieve is disgraceful. Thank God they are willing to do so much, for so little in return. The least I can do is show my gratitude.
  • In order to remain on topic, I'd suggest taking those vocals, bring them up just a bit in the mix, but most importantly, take the muddy out - down a hair on bass from 200 down, up more in the mids (about 600 to 12-1500) and treble as needed, without getting shrill or taking away that nice moody feel of the vocal.

Now, as far as history goes - it isn't America that's shallow, it's Americans. Not all, of course - but there's no other explanation why anyone gives a rat's a$$ what Brangelina's baby looks like or who Paris H is boning. There was a point in history where being an American was a source of pride and engendered patriotic feelings. Now it's like a dirty little secret (travelled abroad lately??)

Thanks for the frankness, 'out...I also am a pitiful vocalist and sound like cats in a bag though a mic. And good for you for having some respect for active and veteran military. As Churchill said, after the Battle of Britain: \"Never have so many owed so much to so few\"....
  • Mercy,
Hey I like the song alot!! As far as your vocals being flat?? I don't think they were. I do think it is hard to make out the words to the song as others stated. Maybee less effects on the Vocals and raise them up in the mix. I think this song is awsome!!! and will be that much more awsome when the words are easier to hear.
    God Bless!!!

  • Mercy, man ur tunes always have such a cool air about them. Definately bring the vocals up. drums sounded a little way back in the mix atleast on my comp speakers. Really liked the backgound talking at the end, a very nice touch!
  • yes I agree with above and give a high five to 16 year old neighbor
  • As usual..
    Another great Mercy Tribe tune...
Vocals are a tad muddy in places But overall great tune...

    See Ya,
    Tal.. 8)
  • Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I tried to remaster a bit to clean up the vocals and tone down that 'drudgy' bass. Just not having a lot of luck and I am pretty tired of this song because I have been working on it for so long.

    Here is another attempt:

BTW, this was not meant to be a political or an anti-American song. I hope I did not offend anyone. The American people by large are a very generous and loving society. It was just an observation that I am trying to apply to my own life. Money, power, wealth, don't mean anything on your death bed. It's about what you've done w/ what you have been given, in the short amount of time we are dealt.

    thanks again.
  • good message.
I know what you mean about being sick of it. My last post was like that---I couldn't even imagine what those sound engineers go thru ---hours and hours on the same song day after day---the tunes must get pounded into thier MINDS
  • I completely know how you feel man - I will post a song I wrote last year about the very same frustrations you are feeling, I think alot of us are feeling..... you are not alone. It's called Hallowed Ground.
