myth dispelled regarding stomp boxes and gnx.
so it happens to be a coincidence that tomorrow is my birthday and i come in to my five year bonus working in a language school in Poland. thought 'what the hell' and got myself a digitech 'bad monkey'.
wasn't sure if i'd be looking to use it on its own or in front of my gnx1. read many entries on the digitech websites saying that it'd probably sound rubbish combined with a multi-effect unit but having read a handful of harmonty central reviews of the 'bad monkey' noticed that lots of people seemed to use it with one multi-effect or another. as i said, thought i'd splash out and hey, guess what? sounds great!
shortly after upgrading from an rp200 to the gnx1 i realised that, despite the gnx being way cool, maybe the stomp box feature would be handy. too late, i'd bought the gnx1 and shopping around in poland is not the easiest of things to do. not being too happy with just a gain and volume boost for lead work i wanted something more uumphy.
looking at the gnx2 manual i noticed that the stomp boxes actually come at the front of the chain anyway so began to wonder why it seemed such a bad idea to stick another box in front of the gnx.
as i said earlier, i was in the position to splash out and seems that actually its not such a no no as many people would seem to believe.
okay, i'm no great sound tech but it just goes to prove that sometimes it's worth trying out what people think is a bad idea anyway - might just prove to be okay...
anyone else use external stomp boxes with a digitech multi-effects?

I think I have made the skunk living under my storage shed decide to move. :?
Guitar - Pedal - GNX - amp
or:
Guitar - GNX - Pedal - amp
I had considered this in the past as I do not own any single pedals but just assumed it wouldn't work out too well. Now I've read this I think I'll rush out and make a purchase when the shops open
I think we're doing avant-garde or desperado hook-ups.
So there really are no rules. You can follow the normal effects chain.
I guess it depends on what effects you are asking from the GNX.
Hell...I don't know. :P
If you read the first line...that's the only one that says anything.
guitar>bad monkey>gnx>amp
i haven't tried it at the end of the chain. might work too.
i think the supposed problem lies in the idea that if the signal going into the gnx is all distorted it will simply make all the gnx effects sound slushy. this may be so but as i said, if you look at the way even the gnx2-4 effects are set up the stomp box is at the front of the chain anyway.
one thing to note however is that i generally use my gnx1 as an amp sim, with a touch of compression here and there. if you use patches with a lot of chorus or phaser maybe putting a distortion pedal in front will make it sound messy. i don't know about that to be honest.
i'd read so many good things about the bad monkey, and it is so well priced that i just thought i'd buy myself a new toy regardless. even if i hadn't been able to use it in conjunction with the gnx i wouldn't have been disappointed.
anyway, im happy and seemed to have finally found my 'lead boost' solution.
Anybody running a stereo hookup?
There was a post around stating that someone used an equaliser/booster before a GNX with good results
People should always experiment like this, so new sounds etc come out.
