Hi, I use Dunlop \"fingerboard cleaner and prep\" to remove the worst,
and use an old (soft) toothbrush to get right into the frets. It looks like new when finished.
Get the physical gunk of, just don't scratch the wood or finish. Than either clean with \"Guitar Cleaner\", or polish vigorously with lemon oil, wipe, wipe off, then leave a nice light coat rubbed into the wood. Unless you have a \"finsihed\" fretboard, in which case you'll wanna use a non-oily polish...
Soft toothbrush and a few drops of lemon oil work great for scrubbing rosewood and ebony.
Use an old T-shirt for soft rags.
Here is the deal...your board too dry...or too over-moisturized is a problem.
Depending on the area you live and your climate...
your conditions can be different than say mine.
Too much oil can disturb glue joints, mess with bindings, and lift frets.
However, too dry can cause problems as well.
Look for a happy medium.
Personally...I don't use organic oils...they can turn rancid.
I recommend using mineral oils, sewing machine oils, bore oils, etc.
Or better still, if you have the money, or near a music store...
purchase the stuff designed for this task in particular.
I use Gibson Luthier's Choice Fretboard Conditioner. ( ...welllllll la ti dah.. ).
Stew-Mac Fretboard Oil...or Guitar Honey are good.
For cleaning...use Murphy's Oil Soap....diluted 3:1.
...or Naphtha and 0000 steel wool. (lighter fluid).
For dry cleaning... use (dry) 0000 steel wool across the fretboard to clean & burnish.
NEVER use anything with silicone in it on your guitar!!!!
I saw a Dan Erlewine video using Spit for the tough stuff and rubbing it out..
Service with a looogie!!! haawwwwwwkkkkkkk Spphoooooo !
They say, that is what is best for cleaning those bugz and spots off the custom paint on your Hog, too.
But get shredds hotties to do it for you and take pictures for me to post please.

You mean the hotties shredd WISHES he had. If I could play better, maybe I'd be more popular with the hottie \"I wanna bang a rock star\" groupie types. Or at least get a date. I'd take pictures of THAT for you!!!
