Pro Tracks Drum Samples

I was just curious if there was a way to load drum samples into Pro tracks?
I have several drum samples that I like and wanted to make my own .CWP file. And my next question would be if I did load these samples, would the GNX4 drum machine be able to play them? or am I stuck with the kits that are preloaded into the GNX4?

  • I hope I understand the question. You cannot load new drum samples into the GNX4 - you're limited to the 8 kits there. However, you can load the drum samples into PTP, by means of importing the WAV files (or whatever audio format, I don't know what's used for samples). Then you can arrange them and loop them however you want to make your own drum patterns.
  • Cool, thanks, actually I kinda figured I wouldn't be able to play them through the GNX4 because of the Kits but wasn't sure. I can however make the loops and save as MP3 for playback, once I figure out how to get my loops set up correctly
  • I'm still looking for my PTP disk, I don't have it installed. I know that Cakewalk's Sonar (the \"enterprise edition\" of Pro Tracks) has a nifty feature called \"Groove Clips\". You take one instance of a clip, and convert it to a so-called groove clip; then extend it to loop wherever you need. Try to right-clip on a single clip and see if that option is available.

So perhaps, if you have individual drum sounds, you can arrange them within a measure (or group of measures), do a \"Bounce to Track\", and create groove clip from the resulting drum patterns.

    Hope that makes sense.
  • You can add your own clips to the GNX4 by saving the midi as type 0 to the GNX. The drummer will play it, and you can change the kits from the GNX selected type. You can't modify the kits though. For that you need to record as an MP3.
