  • I gotta say all your recordings sound great
    I really enjoyed em
I think you got his sound and style down pretty well
and the mix on em is very good too
    excellant!
  • Hey there.

Glad you liked them. Hey I listened to your Hordes Of Locusts recording. Excellent solos and sound. You nailed those 2nd fret hammeron/pulloff harmonics! What setup (guitar and pickups) do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

    Regards,
    Gavin
  • hi gavin,
I have a jackson neck-thru explorer with seymore duncun humbuckers(they came with the guitar) they sound good so I haven't thought of changing.
I've got to say you're tone and playin sound so much like js ___man you've been playin his songs for a while huh----goood job!!
I worked on that song pretty hard for the last few weeks trying to get it right and in the end I think it sounded a little sloppy but compaired to yours ---mine sounded like dirt but I'm s6till happy with it :)
anyways welcome and were glad you're here

  • Hey paul.

I think you're being too critical of yourself. Your playing is awesome. Man, you even played the long legato style phrase in the main solos section of the song. That line has always intimidated me.

Thanks for your kind words and info. Never tried Seymour Duncans but always hear good things about them. I'm getting Dimarzios put in my Ibanez RG1570. Got a Tonezone plus 2 other stock pickups at the moment and they sound like garbage. I'm always battling with my guitar to get a decent sound out of it. Techs are installing an Evo2, Fast Track 1 and PafPro as we speak. Can't wait!

Hey can you update your other songs to MP3 so I can hear them? :)

    Regards,
    Gavin
  • thanx gavin, I will update those songs and repost them and I wanted to ask what patch you were using for those songs cause it sounds real fat and sweet
  • I actually didn't like my tones (except Midnight). My Tonezone would put its own \"Dirt\" sound on anything I recorded with it (you can hear a grainy lead sound in the recordings). And it takes far too much work and effort to get sustain and harmonics.
The pedal is actually an older model Digitech. I have a GNX4 with MFX Supermodels Ultra Pack on order. Delivery is due in the next few days. As soon as my GNX4 and modded guitar come in I'm gonna start recording again.

Look forward to hearing your tunes.

    Regards,
    Gavin
  • oh your gonna love your new set up.
the smodels has a lot of great patchs---you'll get lost for hours

I was able to conv 1 song but the volume is still way too low. Glider told me how to adjust it in ptp and I did but for some reason it still sucks.
oh well I have a lot to learn :?

    Loved every tune..
    Like Satch's Boogie the best...
    Great chops dude... 8)
  • Heya Paul.
That Trak02 MP3 was awesome. It's all cool, just maxxed out the volume on my speakers. Did you write that one? If the GNX4 can give me sounds like that, I'm gonna be one very happy customer. Cool legato lines! Very liquid.

    Hey there Tal Rules.
Thanks for your flattering comments. I must say, I thought I was gonna get some stinging criticism, especially over the changes to Hordes Of Locusts. Stan Getz Moonlight In Vermont link was great. I have a few Stan Getz cds in my small jazz collection.

  • Gavin,
Great Playing!!! If I can play that well someday I would be very pleased and give God the glory!!! I've been playing almost 4 years. I play on a Worship Team at Church Mainly Lead some Rythem. I'm fairly new to Satch though He has tons of stuff I've never listend to. I now play a JS1000BP it truly is awsome!!! I started playing Ibanez RG470DX which was a great playing guitar just a little thin in the tone department. But man the JS I would love to hear you ripping on this tone machine!!! it truly is an inspirational guitar!!! i think you will be very pleased with Dimarzio pups!!! Are you going for Joes pickups?? I know his new one is even out now a MO Joe. My JS1000 has Fred bridge PAF Pro Neck and I just love the versitility of the combos of pups and taps!!! Anyhow great playing!!! keep the post comming!!! You inspired me to actually try to pick up some Satch phrases!!! I normally don't try to play things from recordings as I have Music to work on weekly and find new harmony and lead parts for what I play at Church, but I know I need to do more training of my ear as well!!! thanks again man!!! God Bless!!!
  • Hey there bababoey and partch.

Thanks for your nice words. The pickups I'm getting are Evo2, Fast Track 1 and PafPro. Tried Fred about 6 years ago and though it was great, I went with Evo2 in bridge as I also like to play metal. The PafPro in neck is gonna provide nice legatos and cleans (I hope). The tech is also putting in new wiring (1980's schematics) with a dimarzio push/pull selector system and 500k audiotaper volume and tone pots, and a tremsetter to try and stabilise the trem. I had an RG550 back in 1991 and I hate to admit that Ibanez seem to have changed something in their RG's. The current RG's just aren't the same, hence the big custom job on my 2003 RG1570 to get the old tone and feel. But I'd love to get my hands around a JS or a JEM [salivates].

Anyways, once I get my GNX4 and modded guitar I'm going to get busy recording. I'm planning some wah songs like Surfing With The Alien and Audience Is Listening. Also an acoustic extravaganza such as Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness. That's if I can learn the lead and rhythm parts and program the drums.

    Regards,
    Gavin

Hey partch, can you provide some insights into the PafPro in neck? How does it sound? It's versatile right?
  • Gavin,
You said you loved the Fred?? I think you will equally love the PAF Pro!!! it is good for Rythem Lead Clean basically a very versital good all around pickup!! If you remember How Fred Sounded well this is shifted down a bit Basier warmer creamier sound, but just as responsive I think to pick attack and stuff?? Maybee not quite as good with Harmonics although that has been new kind of realm for me anyhow because my RG just did not do the things this guitar does!!! i'm amazed some times with the sounds and stuff you get by just pick attack and fingering of notes differently just gives vast difference in the sounds and overtones. Anyhow I use FRED the most but equally like the PAF Pro!!! I doubt you will be disipointed!!! God Bless!!!
  • Excellent man! I loved the always with me... Great playing...Keep it going...
  • Firejack018, what do you mean you have \"heavy hands\", who are you kidding? :P I listened to all your posts, sorry now that I took so long to get to them. Well done. Satch Boogie is awsome. I think I will save them all for later. I'll make a folder of named Firejack, I have folders for Tal's and Bababoey's, submissions as well.

Anyway I am rambling, look forward to hearing your music in the future.
  • Hey there guys.

Thanks pieces and mike b for your kind words. It's nice to get some positive feedback. I'm sure I can get better with the GNX4 in my setup though. Time will tell.

Thanks again. I will go searching for your posts now.
