Backing Tracks

Just wondering if anyone has a link to a good web site that has decent backing tracks. Looking for songs that have everything except guitar. I remember there was a site that you could buy a disk, but I was hoping there was a free site somewhere.
I found a few sites that have midi tracks but the background music except for the drums sound too electronic/processed. :?:

  • Because that site allows users to upload files, it is sort of hit or miss. Some files are pretty dorky, but some seem to be copied from magazines and other professional sources. It's a pretty good site overall.

Does anyone know of a better site, or even a CD collection or something that can be purchased? Recording with backing tracks is probably one of the best ways to critically listen to your own playing.
  • Another great source for backing tracks is Line 6 Guitar Port. I keep a subscription just for the backing tracks, which are professional level and include vocals. It's $8 a month - but well worth it. They have a few hundred tracks in their archive with usually two new ones added each week. Of course you need a GuitarPort ($75 eBay) and you have to use it to record the track to an MP3 into your own recording program that can later be used with your GNX. Probably not a solution for everyone, but for me its worth it.
  • This is a high quality BT trax site I bought from....300 mp3s on 2 discs for $36.00 (some trax are so good I would swear they were the originals)

This site has some freebies (but you must register)

    Another freebie

  • Here's something interesting - it's just getting started. It's a great idea - hope they get it off the ground and build an extensive library. It makes a lot of sense:

    http://dreammusician.puretracks.com
  • You beat me to that Dream Musician site...too bad the current selection is so limited (and NOT very Guitarist oriented!)...but it looks promising
  • Looks like Dream Musician uses DRM .WMA files - so no easy transfer to your GNX device without first jumping through some format transfering hoops to create an MP3 from it. Looks like there is some inexpensive software/shareware available that can do it. In my case, I bought a track and had to rip it to CD, then import it in to my iPod, and then recorded the song from my iPod to the computer using Pro Tracks Plus and then saved it as an MP3. Quite a few hoops.
  • try licklibrary.com and there are also some good ones at guitar101.com
  • Lick Library has some cool video tutorial free samples, but alot of the back trax were exactly the same as the backingtracks CD's I bought...Guitar101 on the other hand--I couldnt find anything except advertising.
  • my mistake, it's guitars101.com
  • Well here is my next question, Maybe someone knows how this is done. I have a few tracks I downloaded which I would almost swear is the real band playing, minus the guitar parts, some even have the vocals. Is there a program out there that you can cancel the guitar parts out of the origanal recordings?
  • Okay here it is, after searching many forums and web pages, I got a tip of a devise that does just what I was looking for. It is a Tascom guitar trainer. It cuts out the guitar parts and you can fill in the guitar yourself. It's an awesome practice tool. At a cost of $150.00 it's well worth it. Some disc's I tried didn't work though, but all in all it is well worth the money. You can cut the guitar and save the backing track as an MP3, then load it into the GNX, then jam out. Maybe everyone already knew about this, but since no one responded to my post I figured what the hey I'll share the wealth..

that sounds very cool. so it leaves vocals and everything except guitar? can you leave the rhythm guitars and just take out the lead - and vice versa? what % of your disks does it not work on? is there a certain type of music that it doesnt tend to work on?

anyone know how this thing works? seems too good to be true!

There's really no magical way to completely remove the guitar unless you're working with the original mix, or something that has those parts on a separate track. You can use EQ to make them little noticeable.
  • It works on CDs that have the guitars panned to one channel, if lead is on one channel and the rythym is on the other then you can take out the lead and leave the rythym olr vise versa. vocals are still on the track.
