Midi Computer Hardware
About to buy a GNX3. It is time to upgrade to a new computer with Windows XP. Budget is an issue.
From what I have read, it is best to get a dedicated sound card. Apparently game cards work but will not give the best recording. I have seen reference to some external midi hardware.
Thinking I am in over my head. I am basically trying to figure out what computer hardware I need to purchase with the new computer.
Thanks,
Mike

For a sound card, yes, an audio card is better, but there are several for 100.00, from Echo, EMU, just look at musiciansfriend.com and you will find them
XP would be better, so would the fastest CPU you can afford to get and as much memory, at least 512, a gig or two is better
BUT, on the other hand, I started out recording on a laptop with a 1 gig cpu, and an external sound card (extigy) and 256 meg ram.....it worked fine with just a few tracks, but would freeze when I got up to 10 or more tracks.........
