Don't pick on the newbie!

Got my GNX4 a few weeks ago.... so far very very good. I no longer want to play using my Blues Jr. (for the time being). I'm interest in exploring the world off better speaker (or monitors?). Not looking to spend a lot of money but what is the suggested setup on this? I will be purchasing the Supermodels this week of course! But after that.... what would be a good start as far as monitors or even using my old ADCOM stereo pre-amp.... (my current speaker stinks!)

  • Behringer is blowing out their 8\" monitors, you might take advantage of that.

A decent-size keyboard amp is also a good option. Behringer KX1200s - perhaps the lowest-price high-volume option - have been popular, among others.

My local Guitar Center is currently blowing out the 180W 15\" Eons, which I personally use and couldn't be happier, for $400 (that's $50 below going price elsewhere). Eons are also available with 10\" drivers.

You may also consider getting a power amp with some decent passive speakers, or cabinets. The choice between guitar cabs or full-range speakers seems to be a matter of taste more so than anything else, as does the selection of tube vs solid-state power.

All depends on what you want to use it for, really. You could just get some RCA cables and plug into your home stereo, if you're not planning on gigging and/or recording.
  • leotyman,
I can tell you what I just did:
    1. Bought Kustom KPC12 monitors qty.2 70 bucks Musicians friend.
    2. Bought Eminence Legend Modeling 12's At US Speaker 60 bucks.
    3. Bought Crate Power Block 150 watt stereo PA 199 bucks at musicians friend.
So far as I can see this is the way to go!!! What a difference from either 1 of my other amps which are now going to be sold: Marshall MG30CD and a Fender Pro JR 15W all tube. I realy liked the fender but that little Marshall did not do well with the GNX
I played last night some with an unmodified KPC12 sounded fair, maybee just a little boomy. this was in the front of the power block. Then I went in the EFX loop in the back. WOW!!! Alot better this is the sound I'm looking for!!! Now to modify one of the monitors and drop the Eminence Legend Modeling 12\" in. BIG Difference!!! This monitor now has a pretty awsome sound now in my opinion!! just a thought.
