Quiet down the presets

I'm using the gnx4 thru a Fender Blues Jr. There's no Effects Return on this amp. I like to switch between the By-Pass mode and the gnx presets, but WOW, most of the presets are LOT louder than the amp. Is there a simple way to lower the volume on all presets or should I select the ones I like and save them to the card or user database with lower amp levels?

Or is there another way to be able to switch between the clean amp and the gnx?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • You could use an A/B footswtich to switch between the amp and GNX4. But there is no other way to quieten down the presets other than change the preset level in each preset.

Ok, thanks. Easy enough to do with a few most commonly used ones.
  • You need to adjust the volume output knob in the back of the unit near the 1/4\" guitar out jax...keep switching back and forth between bypass and GNX4 until the average sound of the presets is closest to the bypass volume (you'll find the knob's setting will be suprisingly low)

Yup, done that, but even with it set near zero and matched to the amp while in by-pass mode, when you kick in a preset, wow, too loud. I think the way to go is adjust the preset itself. Thanks for the idea tho'.
  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>I've found that my GNX output is 500% higher than when I select bypass. I've gone in and adjusted the gain and/or preset level to bring them down a bit, but it's still a major signal boost. Forturnately, I dont' run into a guitar amp's preamp; I use FRFR setup. But when I do use my Peavey, I use the \"power amp in\" jack, not into the preamp input.
Unfortunately, the way suggested - turning down the 1/4\" output - won't change anything, 'cuz the FX and Bypass modes go up and down equally with this knob.
I don't know what's up with the GNX levels thing - I can put my guitar signal in and I have to turn it WAAAY up at the guitar input to have it register or approach -0db on the input meter in the recorder section...yet if I do that, I have to put the output level so low I can barely scrape it off the 0 setting.
Ah, the endless mysteries of the GNX. It's great, 'cuz when I'm tired of practicing, I can diddle my setup/patches/whatever...
  • In the end it all boils down to the fact that the gnx4 isnt just an effects unit, its a preamp and DI as well. You put in a low level input, and the gnx4 outputs line level, which is way too hot for a guitar amp.
If you have any effects send/return use them, or if you can bypass the guitar amps preamp, do that.
