Jammin

Here's my second attempt at recording. Thanks to G3456 and iliace, this one went a whole lot smoother than Gamsatch7.

Still would like any feedback on tones, levels etc. I have the feeling that the lead is too heavy for the feel of the song, but this is mellow compared to what I used to play.

  • Nice phrasing, it reminded me of Steve Hunter/Lou Reed R&R Animal a little
  • I have listened to your jam several times. I like what you played, and I don't think lead is too heavy, kind of makes a nice contrast. It deserves better than the old crappy speaker on this work computer. :(:)

I think it has kind of a southern rock feel , and to me that is a good thing.

Thanks for posting enjoyed your song.
  • I think that lead tone was awesome, was it a gnx4 patch by chance? That drumbeat sounds familiar..

I think the background track clashes tonewise with the lead and doesn't let it stand out enough. Some equlazation on the rythm guitar and keyboard(guitar?) would prolly remedy, as well as maybe panning some stuff out of the center of the stereo image.
  • Thanks for the feedback guys :) I appreciate the input!

    Hey grathan,
Sorry, all of this was done with a gnx3000. The lead tone was played on the neck pickup (stacked Dimarzio Evolution), and it is posted on the 3k patch exchange as \"Round\". And yes, I made it ALL the way to the second available drumbeat on this one  Also, I just started messing around with panning, and adding reverb to certain tracks etc, and this recording thing is clearly going to be an uphill climb for me :( Terrible results so far, but I don't give up easily. Thanks again for the input 8)
  • Very nice playing insideout..
    Enjoyed the jam... 8)
  • I agree with Cobaltblooz, Lou Reed influances. Very nice.
  • Serious playing going on here. Very nice :D

I think the lead tone is good, there is a nice attraction of the opposites here.

By the way what's happening with iliace, I don't see him here anymore????
  • Sweet jam.......good lead work and I liked the bell like tone behind it all is that a keybaord or guitar??
  • Hey thanks alot guys :D I appreciate the input.

Tallone, all tracks including base (except the drums) are guitar.

I finally figured out how to pan and add some reverb, so I re-mixed the tune. I think there is better seperation now. I'll re-post the improved version when I'm home later.

Again, thanks to all for the kind words 8)
  • Phantastic soloing :D . loved to hear it... love fast and melodic lines...

Here's the re-mixed version with pan to give the rhythm parts better seperation, and some reverb to liven things up a bit. Hope it sounds better. THanks again for the kind comments above! 8)

    edit: see post below
  • Darn, 32mb wave file. Is there any restrictions on what you can post sizewise? You can hear the guitar stand out better with this one, less noise.
  • Crap, I was in a rush and posted the WAV instead of mp3. Sorry about that. I'll see what I can do about deleting it and upload the mp3 version. Yes, there is supposed to be a 9 MB limit, but it didn't give me any \"file too large\" message. I'll edit this post when it's corrected.

Edit: OK, here's the mp3 of the remix version. What a nugget head I am :?

  • :D very cool I liked the jam alot.

OK that being said ...you asked about tone, so instead of say \"it sounded fine\" I will comment just cause you asked.
For my taste (whatever that is  ) it sounds a bit thin and brittle. I must admit I am a Gibson guy so fat tone/sustain is my bag. ;) You Jackson Fender etc guys like your TWANG so take that with a grain of salt.

    Really enjoyed the tune.
  • ODannyboy,
That's exactly what I was looking for. If I couldn't handle constructive critisism, I wouldn't have posted it :D However, thanks for not telling me \"don't quit your day job\"

I was actually trying to \"fatten\" up the tone by playing the whole thing on my neck pickup. Fortunately I have Obsessive Compulsive Tweaking Disorder (OCTD) (copywrite Kewlpack) and I am still working on it. I have a specific tone in mind, but just haven't been able to nail it down yet. Seems like every time I dial the gain back, I get skinny. I ordered an EQ stomp, and hope within 40-50 years of tweaking, I'll get there
  • I feel your pain about the Tweeking disorder I have it too
 When I want to Fatten up my tone I sometimes duplicate or copy the guitar track. Now you have 2 exact copies of the same track. Then by dragging the track just a tiny bit back from the first it kinda acts like a delay thats to short to hear and gives a track more punch. It also gives it more volume so you may have to cut that back a bit too. also I eq one track darker than the other or I may add an effect to one and not the other always pan them diffrently too. Anyway hope those Ideas help to further enhance your \"Tweeking disease. Once you start there is no cure :wink:
  • My brother recomended the same thing about doubling tracks about 5-10ms delay. It made a huge difference (more from a stereo effect stand than tone). I have also finally started playing with the pickup sim and starting to get some really nice warm single coil tones. Thanks again for the feedback!! 8)
  • Hey Man, you got it going on, nice licks, nice mix
